Speaking where the bible speaks, and silent where the bible is silent.

In the eyes of the world a Christian may be nothing, but we are God’s nothing; And God’s one nothing is far greater than all the somethings this world has to offer, though all combined. For if we are the children of God, who is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, that makes us royalty. Don’t be ashamed to be a Christian, be proud, and let your light so shine!

I know this is wrong. We are not supposed to be proud but humble ourselves in the sight of God. The scriptures NEVER promote pride. When the scriptures speak of pride, it is always wrong. We are warned about becoming prideful. Instead, we are to be grateful. We are to have a grateful heart toward the sacrifice Jesus made for us when He took our place by dying for us so we could have eternal life with Him. Let our light shine by being humble. The meek shall inherit the earth, not the proud! We can only be proud (if we are going to be proud) of something we ourselves have done or made or accomplished yet all the scriptures you put out in support of “PRIDE” promote God as the One who keeps His promises and the One who exalts and lifts and makes us something when we are nothing. Jesus died for us so that we could live for Him. It is what God has done that is great, not anything we have done. You are promoting falsehood here. Perhaps you should rethink exactly what you are promoting.

    • 26 So that your proud confidence in me may abound in Christ Jesus through my coming to you again.
27 Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel; Phil 1:26-27 New American Standard Bible

Actually, if you reverse this statement: I am proud to be a Christian, to say: I am not proud to be a Christian, I believe even you would say this was wrong too? Why? Because it would mean in the vernacular of today that you are ashamed of being a Christian.

I don’t think too many people would agree that we are to be a prideful Christian. My post never said that nor did it imply that. What it did imply was we are not to be ashamed to be a Christian. I am proud to be a Christian, but I am not a prideful Christian. If I were I would be a sinful Christian. The pride the bible condemns is taking pride in oneself and not in others. To take pride in Christ is a marvelous and wonderful thing.

Its strange in life we can take pride in our children, in our spouse, in our parents, and even in our country, but many don’t take pride in being a Christian. Being proud to be a Christian doesn’t celebrate us, it celebrates Christ. At least I do in my life for I am not ashamed of Christ or His Word or to carry his name. I am proud to carry the name of Christ cause Christ died for me.

He who glories, let him glory (boast) in the Lord.” 1 Cor 1:31 A quote from Jeremiah the prophet which says….

      Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches;
24 But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me, That I am the Lord, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,” says the Lord. Jer 9:23-24

Okay, now you are twisting the point. In my Hebrew/Greek/English Interlinear bible (from here on out known as HGEIB) the scriptures say: (Philippians 1:26-27) “…So that your glorying may abound in Christ Jesus in me, through my presence with you again, only behave yourself worthily of the gospel of Christ so that whether coming and seeing you or being absent, I hear the things concerning you, that you stand fast in one spirit and one soul, striving together in the faith of the gospel,…” The glory we have (not pride) should abound in Christ (our boasting should be in Christ as well). Salvation is a gift and is not earned. If we earned it, we could be proud of something we accomplished but we cannot earn heaven without Christ. He is the chief cornerstone and in Him, we have our being. Practicing pride goes against everything else we are taught as Christians to be. Pride promotes strife. I love you brother but you are wrong on this one. The world promotes pride but the Lord promotes humility and gratitude and peace. God bless. We are also told to not be ashamed of the gospel. One does not have to be proud to overcome shame. Be steadfast and unmovable but not proud. Can’t stress that enough.

      • Boasting as defined by Websters simply means: The cause of Pride. The Synonyms of Pride are: glorying, rejoicing, and boasting. If one is commanded to boast in the Lord, it simply means that they are taking pride in the Lord. Therefore, the scriptures validate by a direct commandment that Christians are to take pride in the Lord or being a Christian.

        1 Cor 1:31
That, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the Lord.” NKJV

Glory, Boast, Take Pride in the Lord (Jer 9:23-24) – but not in the flesh, nor in the world (1 Cor 1:29). Paul joins with humility the elevating consciousness of our dignity in Christ. God strips us of self-glory, that we may be clothed with true glory in Him. Therefore take no pride in the world but rather take pride in the Lord. This is congruent with all the teaching in the new testament. Love not the world, but love God and brethren and yes, all men. Take not pride in this world, but rather take pride in the Lord.

        Gal 6:14
“But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” NKJV

Pride in the flesh is a sin, but pride in the Lord, this is not a sin. 1 Jn 2:15,16

Paul did several times when he as well took pride in his sufferings. 2 Cor 11:16-30

        2 Cor 11:16-30
16 “I say again, let no one think me a fool. If otherwise, at least receive me as a fool, that I also may boast a little. 17 What I speak, I speak not according to the Lord, but as it were, foolishly, in this confidence of boasting. 18 Seeing that many boast according to the flesh, I also will boast. 19 For you put up with fools gladly, since you yourselves are wise! 20 For you put up with it if one brings you into bondage, if one devours you, if one takes from you, if one exalts himself, if one strikes you on the face. 21 To our shame I say that we were too weak for that! But in whatever anyone is bold — I speak foolishly — I am bold also. Suffering for Christ 22 Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they the seed of Abraham? So am I. 23 Are they ministers of Christ? — I speak as a fool — I am more: in labors more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequently, in deaths often. 24 From the Jews five times I received forty stripes minus one. 25 Three times I was beaten with rods; once I was stoned; three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I have been in the deep; 26 in journeys often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils of my own countrymen, in perils of the Gentiles, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; 27 in weariness and toil, in sleeplessness often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness — 28 besides the other things, what comes upon me daily: my deep concern for all the churches. 29 Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is made to stumble, and I do not burn with indignation? 30 If I must boast, I will boast in the things which concern my infirmity.” NKJV

        In Christian love I write.

  2. Pride here, must be seen as the opposite of self-condemnation! it is ok to be proud that way with out being arrogant!
