Bad Things Happen To All Christians

Bad Things Happen To All Christians

Society has always recognized that “Bad things happen to good people”, but society has never understood why. However, this has lead many to depart from doing good unto others, and to develop another saying, “Everyone for themselves”. Others mock the scriptures by saying, “Do unto others before they do unto you.” No wonder why we live in a greedy world where everyone is looking out for themselves, and ignoring he needs of the helpless.  So, does the scriptures tell us why bad things happen to good people, especially Christians?

Consider The Life Of Paul

Before Paul became a Christian he was a profited much in the Jewish religion. “Paul said of himself, ”And profited in the Jews’ religion above many my equals in mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers.” He was a highly educated Jew and zealous toward God. He said of himself, “I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day.” Acts 22:3 As long as Paul did evil to the church did he prospered, and no man before or since persecuted the church as much as Paul. He said, “I persecuted this way unto the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.” Acts 22:4 “As for Saul, he made havoc of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison.” Acts 8:3 Paul said, “I verily thought with myself, that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth. Which thing I also did in Jerusalem: and many of the saints did I shut up in prison, having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death, I gave my voice against them. And I punished them oft in every synagogue, and compelled them to blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted them even unto strange cities.” Acts 26:9-11  And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue them that believed on you:  And when the blood of thy martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by, and consenting unto his death, and kept the raiment of them that killed him.” Acts 22:19-20 “For I am the least of the apostles, who am not worthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.” 1 Cor 15:9

It wasn’t until Paul was converted from Judaism to Christianity that his troubles began. Jesus said of Paul, “For I will show him how many things he must suffer for My name’s sake.” Acts 9:16 And the persecutions Paul endured is enough to make even the strongest Christian of our time fall away. Just imagine if all these evils came upon you: “In labors more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequently, in deaths often. From the Jews five times I received forty stripes minus one. Three times I was beaten with rods; once I was stoned; three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I have been in the deep;  in journeys often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils of my own countrymen, in perils of the Gentiles, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; in weariness and toil, in sleeplessness often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness — “ 2 Cor 11:23-28 And above all these he also had a thorn in the flesh which he 3 times prayed to be removed, but was rejected by God. 2 Cor 12:9-12 Some say Paul was beheaded in the days of Nero, but the bible gives no record of how Paul died, but his writings did abruptly end while still in the hands of his captors. Needless to say, Paul suffered as a Christian beyond measure.

Conclusion: The bible gives no record whatsoever for anyone to conclude that if Paul had remained in the position of the chief persecutor of the church, that he would have suffered for it. In fact, if God had wanted Paul to cease persecuting the church, he could have killed him instantly, but this never happened. No one suffered for persecuting the church, only those belonging to the church were persecuted. This warning was given not only to Paul, but to every Christian. Paul said of every Christian, present, past and future, “All that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.” 2 Tim 3:12 It is by these persecutions that we know that we are doing the Will of God. Paul said it this way, “I, brethren, if I still preach circumcision, why do I still suffer persecution? Then the offense of the cross has ceased.” Gal 5:11 The apostle Peter said that we should be comforted knowing that all Christians will endure the same persecutions. 1 Pet 5:9,10 This we can confirm, for God is not a respecter of person. Acts 10:34 f; Col 3:25 Therefore, let us not be overwhelmed when we live godly as Christians, and suffer fiery trials of persecutions for the cause of Christ. 1 Pet 4:12 Judgment first begins with the church, and if it first begins with us, what shall be the end of those who obey not the gospel of Christ? Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God not be ashamed, but glorify God by committing their souls to Him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator. 1 Pet 4:16-19

No Compromise, Apology, or Regret For Our Salvation

The ESV Bible and Diet Coke

There are several things we may want to compromise in life, but our salvation is not one of them. There are several things in life we need to apologize for, but our salvation is not one of them. There are several things in life we may regret, but our salvation is not one of them. Let us examine is some detail the one thing that should never be compromised, apologized or regretted.

Without Compromise

How often do we see in this life those who compromise the gospel of Christ. They will take a part of the gospel and think that a little truth is better than no truth at all. How often the gospel is compromised because it is too hard to live a Christian life. The scriptures instructs us that all who obey the gospel and and remain faithful to it shall suffer persecution. 2 Tim 3:12 Preachers and teachers will compromise the truth because their listeners have itching ears and they have a great desire to fill their pockets. 2 Tim 4:3-5 f; Rom 16:17,18 For this cause Paul instructed a young Timothy to preach the Word of God in and out of season: reproving, rebuking, and exhorting with all long suffering and doctrine. 2 Tim 4:2 All preachers and teachers of the gospel must not add to or take from God’s Word, but rather speak that which becomes sound doctrine. 1 Pet 4:11 f; Tit 2:1 All this Christians must do without compromise.

Without Apology

It is very sad to hear a gospel preacher make apologies for the truth of God. Some have an inner desire to want to please everyone when in essence they are not pleasing anyone, especially God. Paul asked the right question when he said, “Am I therefore become your enemy because I tell you the truth?” Gal 4:16 Yet despite the fact he became the enemy of some, it never caused him to cease to preach the unadulterated Word of God. When Jesus had called the Pharisees  vain worshipers because they taught for doctrine the commandments of men, his own disciples said to Jesus, “Do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?” Matt 15:12 Jesus said in reply, “Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted. Let them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch.” Matt 15:13-14 May every Christian who preaches or teaches God’s Word do so without apology.

Without Regret

There is no greater profession than that of a Christian. Yes, they will be persecuted. 1 Pet 4:12,16 Yes, they will exchange this world’s wealth for God’s promise of eternal life. Mt 6:24 ff; Mt 16:26; Tit 1:2 No Christian should ever regret for having made their lifelong decision to become a servant of God, knowing that which they have sown in the flesh will soon be reaped in the spirit, if they faint not. Gal 6:7-9 Yes, it’s true that a Christian must spend their time learning of God’s Word. 2 Tim 2:15 f; 1 Tim 4:13 Yes, it’s true that a Christian must please God by the foolishness of preaching to save that which is lost 1 Cor 1:21 Yes, it’s true that a Christian must live a good, honest, and moral life before God and man enduring the hardships of a good solider of the Lord. Rom 13 f; 2 Tim 2:3 Yes, a Christian must remain faithful, even unto death in order to obtain a crown of life. Rev 2:10 However, let it never be said that a Christian regrets walking the path of the strait and narrow in the footsteps of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Mt 7:13,14 ;f 1 Pet 2:20,21

What’s The Difference?

What's The Difference

There seems to be a lot of confusion as to what classifies one as godless. Some are called atheist, some agnostics, and some deists. There are others who claim they are religious, but don’t believe in the only true and living God. Anyone who doesn’t believe in the only true and living God are no better than atheist, agnostics or deists. No one can believe in the only true and living God and not believe Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. 1 Jn 22,23 There are still others who profess Jesus is the Christ and believe in God the Father, but they don’t believe God’s Word is inspired of God. 2 Tim 3:16  So the question that needs to be answered: What’s the difference in all of these?

The Godless Defined:

Atheist is defined as: “One who disbelieves in the existence of deity”. Agnostic is defined as: “One who is not committed to believing in either the existence or the nonexistence of God or a god.” A Deist is one who: “Believes in God/god but not in religion or the bible. They advocate a natural religion, emphasizing morality, but denies the interference of the Creator with the laws of the universe.” By man’s definition we have determined the difference between three type of Fools. Ps 14:1 cf 53:1 They are all fools according to God’s Word because in either Word or Works they have denied God. Paul said, “To the pure all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but even their mind and conscience are defiled. They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work.” Titus 1:15-16

It is easy to see Pagan religions and idol worshipers as godless, for they have placed their trust in things which are made with the hands of men. David spoke of these on this wise, “The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands. Acts 17:22-25 They have mouths, but they do not speak; Eyes they have, but they do not see; They have ears, but they do not hear; Nor is there any breath in their mouths.  Those who make them are like them; So is everyone who trusts in them.” Ps 135:15-18

Obey Not The Gospel

What about those who have closed their eyes, ears and heart to God’s Word? Mt 13:15 What about those who claim that they believe in God, but not his Word? These are they who say that they were saved by “Faith Only”, but reject the commandment of baptism by Jesus Christ and his apostles. Mt 28:18-20 ff; Mk 16:16; Rom 6:3,4; 1 Pet 3:21 Can we truly say we believe in the Man, and yet deny His plan of salvation? Jesus said, “He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him — the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.” John 12:48 Peter said “This is the Word which by the gospel is preached unto you.” 1 Pet 1:25 When we reject the full gospel of Christ we are rejecting God, for it was God who commanded Jesus all that he said and done.  Jesus stated, “My doctrine is not Mine, but His that sent Me.” Jn 7:16 And again he said, “He gave me a commandment what I should say, and what I should speak.” Jn12:49

Keep Not The Doctrine Of Christ

When those who have obeyed the gospel, yet deny that God inspired every word written in the bible by the Holy Spirit through the prophets and the apostles, how can they be any better than the godless or those who have not obeyed the gospel at all. Paul wrote, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Tim 3:16-17 If one doesn’t accept this as truth, then they won’t abide in the doctrine of Christ. “Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son.” 2 John 9-10

Conclusion: It’s easy to determine that those who are atheist, agnostic, or deist as lost come the day of judgment. It’s just as easy to determine that idol worshipers are lost as well. However, there is no difference between the godless and those who obey not the gospel or continue in the doctrine of Christ. They all shall receive the same reward of hell and damnation. Take heed to the warning of the apostle Paul who said, “To you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;” 2 Thess 1:7-9

Has America Gone Too Far?

Has America Gone Too Far

In the days of Abraham, God sent two angels to destroy the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities near about. These cities we guilty of abominations so atrocious that God decided that they were too far gone for repentance. Yet, Abraham reasoned with the Lord that if he could find 50 righteous souls perchance God would not destroy these wicked cities.  Surely Abraham reasoned that God would not destroy the righteous with the wicked.  Gen 18:25 And the Lord’s answer was no, I will not destroy them for 50 sake. As a man barters with a seller, Abraham bartered with the Lord from 50 righteous souls down to 40, to 30, to 20 and eventually 10. And the Lord answered he would not destroy these cities for as little as 10. Sadly, Abraham couldn’t find 10 righteous souls in these cities. This despite Lot, his wife, and two daughters were 4 of this 10. At one point Lot’s flocks, herds, tents and herdsmen were so large that they could not coexist with Abraham’s. All these were lost and fell prey to the decadence in Sodom.

The Wickedness of Sodom and Gomorrah

When the two angels arrived in Sodom, the men of the city, old and young, sought to have sex with them. Gen 19:5 Ezekiel wrote, “Look, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: She and her daughter had pride, fullness of food, and abundance of idleness; neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. And they were haughty and committed abomination before Me; therefore I took them away as I saw fit.” Ezek 16:49-50 Peter wrote of these wicked cities when he said, “Turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly; and delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked (for that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous soul from day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds) 2 Peter 2:6-8 Jude wrote of this wicked place as well, “As Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.” Jude 7

The Wickedness of America

America has gone from the land of the free to the land of wickedness in a very short time. This is what will happen when a nation removes God from its government, schools, and families. America’s wickedness is in close proximity to that of Sodom and Gomorrah in many ways. No nation has more pride, abundance of food, idleness, and greed than America. America is second to none when it comes to fornication, adulteries, and homosexuality. On top of this, America has legalized abortions, common law marriages, and now homosexual marriages. Are we that far away from legalizing polygamy for Muslims and Mormons? Group marriages?  Some even wanting to marry their pet? The psalmist David warned, “The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.” Ps 9:17 “Now consider this, you who forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver:” Ps 50:22

God’s Warnings

Moses warned, “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.” Lev 18:22  “If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death.” Lev 20:13 Paul declared, “For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.” Rom 1:26,27  “Who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.” Rom 1:32

Conclusion: God will not always be tolerable against the abominations America and the nations who follow them. We know this because God has destroyed entire nations for doing what America is doing today. There will come a time when repentance will not be accepted for such abominations even as God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. Has America gone too far? Because God has delayed his punishment mankind thinks there is no God or that God approves of their wickedness. Ecc 8:11,12

We live in a country that if one stands up against evil they can no longer work and provide for their families. We live in a society who brag about having babies out of wedlock without even knowing who is the father of their children.  A society that thinks fornication is a perquisite to marriage. A society which mocks the vows of marriage, and treats adultery like a badge of honor. A society that considers it a right to kill a preborn child. A society that mocks the poor and needy while upholding the rich and powerful.  And now this same wicked society is allowing the homosexuals and lesbians to become married and raise children? Jeremiah wrote about those who are not ashamed of their abominations: “Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? No! They were not at all ashamed; Nor did they know how to blush. Therefore they shall fall among those who fall; At the time I punish them, they shall be cast down,” says the Lord.” Jer 6:15 Perhaps America needs to take to heart the warnings of Obadiah the prophet who said, “The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwells in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that says in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground? Though you exalt yourself as the eagle, and though you set your nest among the stars, there will I bring you down, says the Lord. Obad. 3,4

4 Seasons Of A Christian’s Life

4 Seasons of a Christian's Life

A very wise man named Solomon penned the words: “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:” Eccl 3:1 In each of our lives there is a season to our Christian life as well. This is the reason why Peter said that we should grow in the grace and in the knowledge of Christ. 2 Pet 3:18 As we grow as Christians we are ever changing in our service to the Lord. Let us examine the 4 seasons of a Christian’s life.

Springtime Of Our Journey

Solomon wrote, “Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, before the difficult days come, and the years draw near when you say, “I have no pleasure in them”:” Eccl 12:1 From the time one believes with the heart and confesses with the mouth that Jesus is the Christ,  Rom 10:10 and repents and is baptized for the remission of sins, Acts 2:38  and are added to the churches of Christ, Acts 2:47 they are a Christian.  Every Christian remembers the zeal they had when they first became a Christian. They seemingly want to do everything, yet were not prepared to do that much for the Lord, for they were babes in Christ. Peter said, “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that you may grow thereby:” 1 Peter 2:2 During this period it is very imperative that we are weaned on the Word of God that in time we might do mighty works for the Lord in our proper season.

How often do many seek this knowledge too quickly, and choke on God’s Word, and die spiritually for a lack of understanding. Mt 13:19 It is at this age we must seek diligently or study to show ourselves approved of God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Tim 2:15 At this stage we must devote our time to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. 1 Tim 4:13 It is noteworthy that this stage isn’t necessarily for the young, but rather for those who are young in the faith. Many never get past this stage, and often die spiritually, never able to be fruitful in the Spirit. To this end Paul wrote, “For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.” Heb 5:12-14 It is imperative that the most seasoned Christians among us (e.g. Preachers, teachers, elders, deacons etc) tutor and supply the spiritual needs of the Springtime Christian, that they too may one day flourish in the vineyard of the Lord.

Summer Of Our Journey

If we reach the summer of our Christian life, we are prepared to be teachers, preachers, deacons, and elders of the church. We have put on the whole armor of God, and are prepared to defend ourselves against the trickery of the Devil. Eph 6:12-18 We are set to defend the gospel of Christ against false doctrine. Philip 1:15-18 We are ready to contend for the Faith. Jude 3 We are able to prove all things and hold firm that which is good. 1 Thess 5:21 We are able to win souls, and to convert the sinner from the error of their ways. Prov 11:30 f; Jam 5:19,20

To those who meet the requirements to be a deacon or elder of the church and have the desire to become one, it is a time for leadership and guidance of fellow Christians; 1 Tim 3:1-13 A time to be watch out for the souls of others, and give an account to God for those under his watchful leadership; Heb 13:7,17 A time to protect the church against false teachers, and to feed the church of God with the Word of truth. Acts 20:28-31

Autumn Of Our Journey

By the time one gets to this stage, they have been a Christian for quite sometime. They have endured much hardships for the cause of Christ, and are very wise in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. It’s a time many preachers pass on their knowledge and advice to a future generation, even as Paul passed on his to a young Timothy. 2 Tim 4:2-5

It’s a time when when we examine ourselves whether we be in the faith, unless we ourselves having taught others be castaways. 2 Cor 13:5 f; 1 Cor 9:27 At this stage we have our house in order knowing we shall soon die in the flesh, but continue to live in the spirit. 2 Kings 20:1 It’s a time one prepares to meet their Maker knowing that they have fought a good fight of faith, finished their course, and kept the faith. Therefore they are ready to obtain their crown of life. 2 Tim 4:7,8

Winter Of Our Journey

If we reach this stage we have finished our journey. It’s a time to stand before God and be judged according to our deeds, and receive our crown of life. 2 Cor 5:10 ff; Rom 2:16; Jn 12:48; Rev 2:10 Blessed are those who die in the Lord that they may have rest from their labors, and their works follow them. Rev 14:13 Precious in God’s sight is the death of his saints. Ps 116:15 It’s a time when those who were left behind are inspired by your life’s accomplishments in the Lord, knowing that all die, but so few who die in the Lord. Heb 9:27 It’s a time for opportunity for someone who is prepared to serve the Lord to fill your shoes in service to God. 2 Tim 2:2

Conclusion:  Yes, ‘To everything there is a season’, and as our Christian journey unfolds let us be ever mindful of our ultimate goal, and this is to obtain eternal life with God. Tit 1:2 Our journey first begins when we are born again by the Word of God, the gospel of our salvation. 1 Pet 1:23-25 f; Eph 1:13 Our journey is tried and tested as we endure persecutions and tribulations beyond measure. 2 Tim 3:12 ff; 1 Pet 4:12,16; 1 Pet 2:20,21 Eventually, our journey ends when we are judged by God’s Word according to our works. To this end did we begin our journey, and to this end let us rejoice and shout for joy when all is completed in the Lord. Ps 32:11

God’s Silence Of The Thief On The Cross

God's Silence Of The Thief On The Cross

It is quite amazing how many people are confused over the thief on the cross, and his non-relation to our salvation. What makes it so amazing is that church of Christ members today actually have abandoned one of God’s greatest principles, allowing a Baptist doctrine to be perpetuated till this very day. How often do you hear the Baptist ignorantly say that the thief on the cross believed in Jesus Christ and was winged to heaven with Jesus Christ? Nothing could be further from the truth, but the lie continues till this very day. Why? Because the Baptist have agreed to call Jesus Christ himself an unmitigated liar when he said, “He that believes and is baptized shall be saved”. Mk 16:16 The entire Baptist religion and many other denominational religions state that ‘Belief ONLY’ saves. Now of course this doctrine is not found in the entire bible whatsoever. In fact, the apostle James refuted this false doctrine point blank when it said, “You see then that a man is justified by works, and NOT by ‘Faith Only’.” Jam 2:24

Now, to a reasonable, sincere seeker of truth, the Baptist doctrine has been proven false! Right? Evidently, there are few sincere Baptist and denominational seekers of truth because they still don’t believe the word of Jesus Christ nor the apostle James. They also don’t believe the apostle Peter who said, “Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Acts 2:38 And again he said, “The like figure where unto even baptism doth also now save us.” 1 Pet 3:21 And if these are not enough consider the words of Paul concerning baptism when he said, “Do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” Rom 6:3-4 This is the same Paul who said, that by one Spirit we all are baptized and are all members of one body, (the church) of Christ, which Christ is the head thereof. 1 Cor 12:13,27 f; Col 1:18

So, if this false doctrine which has called Peter, Paul, and James along with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ a liar, then what effect will any more irrefutable facts have on such who believe as these? The bible actually proves without a shadow of a doubt that the thief on the cross was not an exception to baptism as falsely perpetuated by so many. So what is this proof?

The Silence of God

Nadab and Abihu offered up strange fire before God. Moses wrote, “Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the Lord, which he commanded them not. And there went out fire from the Lord, and devoured them, and they died before the Lord. Lev. 10:1-2 They spoke in God’s silence, and God killed them. God’s silence did not mean approbation but rather prohibition. Uzzah touched the ark of the covenant because he sought to prevent the ark from falling. God commanded no one but the priesthood to touch the ark and that upon staves of acacia wood, not a cart, but spoke nothing of what to do if the ark was about to fall. Uzzah touched it, and God killed him. Numbers 4:15; 1 Chron. 13:5-10; Ex 25:13,14 God’s silence did not mean approbation but rather prohibition.

In the New Testament Paul by the revelation of Jesus Christ commanded, “Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;” Eph 5:19 No where in this verse or in Colossians 3:16 did God mention the use of instrumental music. God’s silence on instrumental music did not mean the approbation on its use, but rather prohibition.

Thief on the Cross

Now let us apply this same principle to the thief on the cross. Too many in the church today have abandoned the biblical principle of God’s Silence. Many have superimposed a new doctrine to replace God’s silence. This doctrine says: “If God didn’t say not to, then we can do it.” If this new doctrine introduced to us by man was true, then God killed Nadab and Abihu and Uzzah in cold blooded murder, which He did not. Secondly, it would mean that instrumental music could be used at our own discretion, which is not true.

Let us read the brief conversation the thief had with Jesus on the cross and apply the “Silence of God” to him and his condition and see what is truth and what is false doctrine. “Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, “If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us.”  But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, “Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong.” Then he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.” And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.” Luke 23:39-43 End of Conversation.

Now let us examine what was said, and what wasn’t said and and let the evidence speak for itself. Did the thief ever say he believed Jesus was the Christ the Son of God? NO! Did the thief ask Jesus to forgive him of his sins? NO! Did the thief ever repent of his sins? NO! Did Jesus ever say to the thief, your sins be forgiven you? NO! Did the thief ever ask Jesus to save him? No! Did Jesus ever say to the thief, “You are saved”? NO! Now, let’s add one more thing that was never said to be extremely fair on this subject: Did the bible ever say the thief had been baptized of Jesus or John or any other disciple? NO! You see by now, I am not writing to the Baptist altogether, but also to church of Christ members who have abandoned the “Silence of God”. For if the silence of God is no longer revered by God’s chosen, then the thief can easily be said to have done all these things in theory. After all, in none of these verses did the bible ever say the thief believed not, repented not, was baptized not. If one were allowed to speak in the silence of God as the Baptist have for centuries, then we can say the thief did any or all of these supposed acts.

Therefore, by the silence of God we are left with these simple facts. The thief knew of Jesus and his kingdom (the church) to come, and that Jesus had done nothing worthy of death. He also knew that he and the other thief was worthy of death because of their evil deeds. The thief did ask one thing of Jesus and one thing only: He asked, “Remember me when you come into to your kingdom” (the church). To this end Jesus said, “Today, you shall be with Me in paradise”.  The thief is remembered to this day because his comments were recorded in the new testament. However, the thief on the cross was never used as a doctrine of salvation by any of Jesus’ apostles. Jesus commanded his apostles to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believes and is baptized shall be saved but he that believes not shall be condemned. Mk 16:15,16 And again it was said, “Go you therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you, and lo I am with you always, even to the end of the world. Mt 28:19,20 In no biblical conversion from Pentecost, when the church first began, was anyone taught to ‘believe only’ and you shall be saved.

We also know that the church did not come into effect until Jesus had died, was buried and resurrected from the dead. In fact, the baptized believers were not added to the church until the day of Pentecost in Acts chapter 2. Secondly we know that when Jesus died that he did not ascend into what many call Paradise (heaven), Jn 20:17 but rather according to the apostle Peter went and preached to the spirits that were in prison who were disobedient in the days of Noah. 1 Pet 3:19,20 Thirdly, Jesus and the two thieves all died under the law of Moses, and not under the law of Christ. Therefore, the thief was not subject to the gospel of Christ whatsoever.

Conclusion:  As a servant of God I can’t go beyond what was written. 1 Cor 4:6 I can’t tell you that the thief believed, repented or was baptized for the remission of his sins. I can’t tell you he was a follower of John or any other disciple. I can’t tell you Jesus forgave the thief of his sins. I can’t tell you that Jesus saved the thief.  If Christ saved him, the Holy Spirit kept it a secret, and the secret things belong unto God. Only those things which were revealed belong unto us that we might be able to  do all the words of God’s law.

God’s silence on the thief gave us not the approbation to follow evil as our pattern of salvation, but rather the prohibition to follow any other than Jesus Christ who died and shed his blood for us. Acts 20:28 The bottom line is that Jesus Christ is our pattern to follow, and not the thief on the cross for our salvation. 1 Pet 2:21 Jesus said my sheep hear my voice and I know them, and they follow me. Jn 10:27 Neither Paul or Apollos or Peter and especially the thief on the cross was crucified for us_only Jesus Christ died for our sins. 1 Cor 1:12,13 Christians are buried with Christ by baptism into his death and not the death of the thief on the cross. Rom 6:3,4 Every Christian convert in the new testament after the day of Pentecost were confessed believers who had repented, and were baptized for the remission of their sins, and were added to the Churches of Christ. Rom 10:10 ff; Acts 2:38; Acts 2:47 No wonder why all denominational churches who take the thief as their pattern of salvation join themselves to churches which bears not the Lord’s name, Acts 4:12  obeys not the Lord’s gospel, Gal 1:6-9 nor abides in the doctrine of Christ. 2 Jn 9 And if members of the churches of Christ don’t get back to revering the silence of the scriptures, they too will be lost. Jn 8:31

Sin Defined By God’s Word

Sin Defined By God's Word

There seemingly is confusion around the world as what constitutes sin. That old serpent has spun his web and muddied the waters to confuse mankind that sin is just a matter of the mind. If you don’ t mind then it must not matter, seemingly is the attitude of the world. The names of sin have been changed, and what once was called sin is now called a disease. Suddenly, the freedoms America once enjoyed have now been to include the freedom to sin. Let us examine what sin was, is, and always will be.

What Is Sin?

John defined sin when he wrote, ”Whosoever commits sin transgresses also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.” 1 John 3:4  Anything that is absent of God’s law is sin. Where there is no law, there is no sin. Therefore, where there is a law, there is sin. Rom 4:15 We are all under the law of Christ, and therefore subject to the transgression of His law. Anyone who sins, and abides not in the doctrine of Christ, has not God. He that abides in the doctrine of Christ has both Father and the Son. 2 Jn 9 By this definition, we now can determine what is and what isn’t a sin.

The Laws of Christ

Entrance Into the Church

All sinners are subject to the laws of Christ, for while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Rom 5:8 Jesus verily came into this world to save that which was lost. Lk 19:10 Jesus said, “They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” Mark 2:17  No matter how moral a sinner is, or how many good deeds they perform, until they obey the gospel they shall be judged unworthy. Mt 7:21-23

The law of Christ commands all to obey the gospel of Christ. The gospel commands each of us to believe with the heart and confess with the mouth that Jesus is the Christ the Son of God. Rom 10:9,10 It also commands each of us to repent and be baptized for the remission of sins. Acts 2:38 It also commands each of us to remain faithful unto death. Rev 2:10 Therefore, by the definition of sin, anyone who does not obey the gospel has committed sin and is classified as a sinner. As Paul warned, all who obey not the gospel shall be rightfully punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord. 2 Thess 1:7-9

Worship of the Church

The doctrine of Christ commands all who have obeyed the gospel, who have been added to His church, to worship Him in Spirit and in truth. Jn 4:23,24 Paul writing to the churches at Ephesus and Colosse commanded all the assembled saints to, “Speak to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,” Eph 5:19 Luke wrote that Christians assembled on the first day of the week are to remember the Lord’s death by partaking of the Lord’s supper. Acts 20:7 f; 1 Cor 11:24-26 Paul wrote to the Corinth Church and the churches of Galatia to give of their means, freely and not out of necessity, in support of the needy saints. 1 Cor 16:1,2 f; 2 Cor 9:6.7 The church was instructed by the means of preaching, for the church is the manifold wisdom of God, the pillar and ground of the truth. Acts 20:7 ff; 1 Cor 1:21; Tit 1:3; 2 Tim 4:2-5; Eph 3:10; 1 Tim 3:15 These are the only acts of worship which were manifested by the Spirit through the apostles.

Conduct of Christians

All Christians are subject to the laws of Christ in accordance to their moral conduct. Immorality is prohibited by the doctrine of Christ: “Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.” 1 Cor 6:9-11 (also read: Gal 5:19-21 and Rom 1:28-32) In today’s society, mankind has renamed homosexuals as gay, prostitutes as call girls, drunks as alcoholics, and thieves as kleptomaniacs, etc. Sin by any other name is still sin.

Also it is noteworthy that sin defined by any other definition remains sin as God defined it. No matter how many redefine what adultery is or is not, what God calls adultery remains adultery and all shall be judged accordingly.  Mt 5:32 f; Mt 19:9 If a Christian has committed a work of the flesh they must repent before God, and turn from their sin, and return back to the doctrine of Christ. Acts 8:22 f; Rom 2:4

Conclusion: If we had not known the law, we would not have known sin. Rom 7:7   Paul said, “Know you not, that to whom you yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants you are to whom you obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? But God be thanked, that you were the servants of sin, but you have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Being then made free from sin, you became the servants of righteousness.” Rom 6:16-18 Therefore, by the law of Moses was sin identified, and by the law of Christ was sin removed by the blood of Christ. Because sin was defined to us by God’s Word, all are subject to the gospel of Christ. To those who know to do good and do it not, to him it is sin; Jam 4:17 And to those who have no knowledge of God’s Word, ignorance is no excuse. Acts 17:30

The Principles That Separates The Church of Christ From Denominationalism

The Principles That Separate The Church of Christ From Denominationalism

There are basic principles of the Word of God which help us to understand that which was written, and keeps us from straying from the doctrine of Christ. These principles which God instituted are the only things which separates the churches of Christ from denominationalism. Let us examine the principles of the truth of God and why many churches of Christ need to get back to the new testament doctrine which Christ established.

1. Speak Where The Bible Speaks

There is no principle which stirs more controversy than this one. Why? Because every denomination in the world doesn’t abide by it, and many liberal churches of Christ have abandoned this cornerstone doctrine of Christ. The bible in both the old and new testaments are consistent in this basic principle. God does NOT allow anyone whatsoever to add to or take from his divine Word without eventual repercussion. Moses commanded Israel, “You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.” Deut 4:2 Also read: Deut 5:32 cf; 12:32; 28:14 The apostles had the same reverence to God’s Word in the new testament. They spoke only what they had seen and heard. Acts 4:19,20  They taught only what the Holy Spirit revealed to them. 1 Cor 2:13 They taught us not to go beyond that which was written. 1 Cor 4:6 They commanded us to “Speak as the oracles (Will) of God. 1 Pet 4:11 They reminded us that the holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. 2 Pet 1:21 They warned us not to add to or take from God’s Word. Rev 22:18,19 It can truly be stated that no church, no matter what name it carries can be right with God when it adds to or takes from God’s Word.

2. Rightly Dividing The Word Of Truth

This biblical principle is imperative because without it, we would still be under the old testament commandments, statutes, and judgments given to Israel by Moses on Mount Sinai. There are a few denominations who still are baffled by this principle, and don’t comprehend why we are not to abide by the entire bible in order to obtain salvation. Paul commanded a young Timothy to, “Be diligent (study) to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Tim 2:15 So, what does it mean to ‘Rightly Divide’? If we study God’s Word we understand that there were 3 dispensations of the bible: The Patriarchal, Mosaic, and Christian dispensation. Each dispensation had laws which were specific to them, and laws which were universal to every man in all dispensations. To know which one that applies to us today is to have such laws carried over into the new testament. For instance, every dispensation stated “You shall not kill, steal, or lie. However, the law of Moses commanded Israel to sacrifice animals to have their sins pushed back for another year, but the law of Christ commanded confessed believers to repent and be baptized to have their sins removed. Acts 2:38 Therefore, it is understood that the dispensations contradict one another, and therefore can’t coincide with one another simultaneously. Until we can rightly divide the Word of truth, we are lost, for as Paul stated, “You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.” Gal 5:4. Let us always remember that the old testament was for our learning to lead us to Christ, and not our obedience. Rom 15:4 To get a more detailed understanding of the dispensations also read this article: https://biblicalproof.wordpress.com/2013/05/14/the-dispensations-of-the-bible/

3. Direct Commandment, Apostolic Example, and Necessary Inference

Direct Commandment

When Jesus or an apostle gives a direct command, all men are bound to obey that command (unless there is something in the context that limits its application). In reference to the Lord’s supper Jesus said, “This do in remembrance of me.” Luke 22:19 ff; 1 Cor. 11:24-26 The commandment provides divine authority for the church to observe the Lord’s supper. Indeed, a church that does not observe the Lord’s supper is guilty of sin.

Apostolic Example

Paul instructed, “For this cause have I sent unto you Timotheus, who is my beloved son, and faithful in the Lord, who shall bring you into remembrance of my ways which be in Christ, as I teach every where in every church” 1 Cor. 4:17. “Be you followers of me, even as I also am of Christ”. 1 Cor. 11:1 “Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an example.” Phil. 3:17  We know that the early church was commanded to partake of the Lord’s supper by direct command, and we have the apostolic example of when it was to be taken.  Acts 20:7 Therefore, we have divine authority to observe the Lord’s supper each first day of the week.

Necessary Inference

Peter learned by necessary inference that the Gentiles could be saved by the blood of Christ without being circumcised and obeying the Law of Moses. On the basis of the vision of clean and unclean animals let down on a sheet from heaven and God’s Word: “What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common,” Peter therefore concluded that Gentiles could be saved for he said, “Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: But in every nation he that fears him, and works righteousness, is accepted with him”. Acts 10:34-35  In like manner, brethren necessarily infer from the fact that Jesus instituted the Lord’s supper during the Feast of Unleavened Bread (Matt. 26:17) that the bread used in the Lord’s supper is unleavened bread.

Conclusion: Anyone who applies the biblical principles established in God’s Word can come to no other conclusion that Christ built and is the head of only one church: the churches of Christ. Mt 16:18 f; Rom 16:16 They will conclude that only confessed believers (Rom 10:10) who have repented and were baptized for the remission of their sins (Acts 2:38) are saved and are added by Christ to His Church. Acts 2:47 Once added to the church they will conclude that all Christians must worship God in Spirit and in truth. Jn 4:23,24 They will sing without the aid of musical instruments. Eph 5:19 They will remember the Lord’s death by partaking of the Lord’s supper each first day of the week. Acts 20:7 They will give freely and not us necessity (no tithing) each first day of the week. 1 Cor 16:1,2 f; 2 Cor 9:6,7 They will hear the Word proclaimed by the means of preaching. Acts 20:7 f; 2 Tim 4:2-5 And above all, they will conclude that all Christians must remain faithful unto death in order to receive a crown of life. Rev 2:10 f; Jam 1:12

Without these biblical principles we will be, “.. tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head — Christ” Eph 4:14-15 If Christ is to be our head, and if we are to be united in all that Christ and his apostles taught, we must submit to God’s righteousness. As Paul said to those who were zealous, but not according to the knowledge of God, “For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God.” Rom 10:2,3

If you are in a denominational church, God’s biblical principles can deliver you from the hand of evil, if you will only but come out from among them and be separate from them. Then and only then will the Lord receive you as sons and daughters and welcome you to the fold of God. If you belong to the churches of Christ, and have strayed from God’s biblical principles, it’s still not too late to turn back to God even as the Prodigal son, for his hands are stretched out still. Isa 9:17

Two Offers Are On The Table For Your Soul

Two Offers Are On The Table For Your Soul

Since the moment you were born both God and the Devil have made bids for your soul. They both have something to offer to you that is simply irresistible to resist. However, both offers are completely different, and their end result goes in opposite directions. The scriptures gives us an account of this offer when Jesus was tempted in the wilderness. The same offer made to Christ is made to us today. Let us examine just what these two offers entail.

In Matthew’s gospel it is recorded Jesus being tempted of that old serpent called the devil. Matthew records, “Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.” Matt 4:8-9 Satan’s offer was straight up and to the point to the Lord. I give to you the world, and all I ask is for you to worship me. Now consider this, Jesus knew of what kind of death he would have to suffer, for it was to this end he came into the world. Mt 20:28 Jesus knew of the horrendous task set before him: How he would be mocked, slapped, spit upon, beaten, made to wear a crown of thorns, made to bear his own cross, nailed to this cross between two thieves, and all this before his family, his followers, and those who were responsible for his death.

Jesus also knew if he obeyed God that he would be given all power in heaven and earth. Mt 28:18 He knew that he would have his eternal reward in heaven, sitting on God’s right hand. Heb 1:3 Satan offered Jesus this present world and all the glory of them. Satan did not ask Jesus to die a cruel death like God had. No! He gave Jesus a very easy task to accomplish. Just fall down and worship me and all this shall be yours. Now, we know which one Jesus took, for by choosing to bear his cross we today have hope of eternal life. Tit 3:7

Today, this same offer is being made to you and I. We can curse God and die as Job’s wife advised Job, and receive a sinners earthly reward, (Job 2:9) or we can obey God by being buried with Christ by baptism and raised to walk a new like. Rom 6:3,4 This new life will demand that we are persecuted for the cause of Christ, be tempted, and tried with fire until the day we die. Paul said, “All that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.” 2 Tim 3:12 James said, “Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.” James 1:12 Peter wrote, “Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.” 1 Peter 4:12-13 “Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?” 1 Peter 4:16-17

The very scripture which verifies that we must endure even as Jesus endured is also found in the book of 1 Peter. Peter reveals it this way, “For this is commendable, if because of conscience toward God one endures grief, suffering wrongfully. For what credit is it if, when you are beaten for your faults, you take it patiently? But when you do good and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God. For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps: “Who committed no sin, nor was deceit found in His mouth”; Who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously; who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness — by whose stripes you were healed. For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.” 1 Peter 2:19-25

As was said before, so say I now again, an offer has been made for your soul. What will you give in exchange for your soul? Mt 16:26 Some want love and lovers, some want fortune and fame, some want power and dominance, while some want the whole world and all it has to offer. As Jesus said, “Woe unto to you that are rich for you have received your consolation.” Lk 6:24 For those who take this tempting offer, hell and damnation is awaiting them come the day of judgment, even as hell awaited the Rich man in the story Jesus told of the Rich man and Lazarus. Lk 16:19-31

If we obey the gospel of Christ by believing with the heart and confessing with the mouth that Jesus is the Christ; Rom 10:10 If we repent and are baptized for the remission of our sins. Acts 2:38 And if we remain faithful unto death by enduring our cross of trials, temptations and persecutions, then shall we receive our crown of life. Rev 2:10 Jesus chose to obey God and bear his cross, the only question which remains for us today, will we?

Stages Of Conversion

Stages Of Conversion

The Word of truth, the gospel of our salvation finds each of us at different stages in our lives. This is self evident within the new testament conversions. Some were devout Jews, some were Pagans, and some were misguided Christians. Let us examine the different stages of conversion, and how we as Christians can be better prepared to convert the sinner from the error of his way.

1. Atheism

One of the most hardest to convert are those who don’t believe in God whatsoever. To these, the bible is an outdated book written by men that has no relevance in our lives today. So, how does one convert someone who has no regard for the bible or God? The scriptures call such who says there is no God a fool. Ps 14:1 This is not to say that they are ignorant, but rather to say that they have reached a foolish conclusion based upon the evidence surrounding him. After all, who can look at the stars in heaven and say that there was not a higher being which created them? David said, “The heavens declare the glory of God and the sky shows his handiwork.” Ps 19:1

Actually Atheism is a faith unto itself. It is a self made religion which has basic principles. In order to be an atheist one must believe:

A) That God Does Not Exist
David wrote, “Before the mountains were brought forth or ever you have formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting you are God.” Ps 90:2

B) Matter Is Either Eternal Or It Created Itself
David wrote again, “Know that the Lord, He is God;It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;” Ps 100:3  Paul said, “For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also his offspring.’” Acts 17:28

C) That Life is Spontaneously Generated
Moses wrote, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” Gen 1:1

D) Order and Design Are Results of Non-Intelligent Accidents
Moses wrote again, “The Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.” Gen 2:7

E) That Non-Consciousness Evolves to Consciousness
Evolutionist affirm that we are the descendants of a one cell organism that has no consciousness. Otherwise, it does not know that it exists. Paul wrote, “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!” Rom 11:33

F) That Non-Morality Evolves to Morality
Evolution says we evolved from apes and lesser forms which have no morality. Yet man has morality. Science can’t explain where this morality comes from. Isaiah wrote, “This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord.” Isa 54:17 James wrote, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” James 1:5

In order to convert an atheist they first must believe in God. Heb 11:6 Secondly, they must believe every word of the bible proceeded from God, and written by inspired men. 2 Tim 3:16 f; 2 Pet 1:21 Then, and only then, can they be taught the full gospel of Christ and have the opportunity for salvation.

2. No Religious Affiliation

There are many who believe in God and that the bible is His Word, but they are not attached to any religion whatsoever. Most of these have not been taught one doctrine or another and are a great potential to be taught. In many ways, these are an open slate, fertile ground just waiting to be filled with the truth. Just like the Gentiles who had never heard the word of God preached to them, such are these. Despite the Jews who had known God and seen his miracles for thousands of years, they turned and forgot God. This they did because of a lack of Knowledge. Hos 4:6 Jesus said, “Do you not therefore err because you know not the truth and neither the power of God.” Mk 12:24

It doesn’t take a highly knowledgeable person to become a Christian, although it does take the knowledge of God to remain one. If those who have no concrete conviction have an open mind, and are willing to hear and be filled with the Word of truth, they can be saved. Acts 17:11 Jesus said, “Who has ears to hear, let them hear.” Mt 13:9 Then he said, “Take heed therefore how you hear” Lk 8:18; “Take heed what you hear.” Mk 12:24 Faith comes by hearing the Word of God. Rom 10:17 Once this happens, the gospel can be preached effectively with the hopeful expectation of conversion.

3. Denominational Convert

So, what happens when one who has no knowledge of God is taught a denominational doctrine and believe it for truth? You have someone who is very hard to turn from the err of their ways. Impossible? Of course not. It just takes a patient teacher who loves the souls of sincere believers of error. The apostle Paul was a sincere person who was sincerely mistaken. He even said that he lived in all good conscience before God, because the havoc he did to the church was done out of ignorance. Acts 23:1  Cornelius was such a man who when he had heard the gospel immediately was baptized. Acts 10

Even so, a denominational convert when faced with the truth can be resistant and even belligerent. The teacher of these has to be willing to take the insults and slander that will be coming their way. The teacher must be very mature and well versed in God’s Word. 2 Tim 2:15 f; Heb 5:12-14 He must be ready to give them an answer to their every contention raised against the truth. 1 Pet 3:15 He must have on the whole armor of God, and be set for the defense of the gospel. Eph 6:11-18 f; Philip 1:15-18 He must answer with sound doctrine in great faith and love of Jesus Christ. 2 Tim 1:13 Eventually, the denominational convert will either have two choices: either accept that the doctrine they obey is wrong and change to the truth; or they will remain in the err of their ways and reject the truth. If they reject the truth they will have to give an account for their soul before Christ come the day of judgment with no hope to change. Jn 12:48

4. Misguided Christian

In my lifetime, I have found that a misguided Christian can be one of the hardest challenges for any preacher of the truth. The reason for this is because the misguided Christian believes with all their heart and soul that they are correct, and have verses which might make one lean to that conclusion. Usually these are matters which are hard to discern, and are often debated. Often, these kind will separate themselves from other Christians without anyone being able to convince them they are wrong.

Often these are they who have forgotten or were never taught the basic principles of rightly dividing the Word of truth. 2 Tim 2:15 Just like the denominational convert, they don’t know that we are not permitted to add to or take from God’s Word. 1 Cor 4:6 f; Deut 4:2; 1 Pet 4:11; Rev 22:18,19 They don’t know that all scriptures proceeded from God and has his authority. 2 Tim 3:16 They don’t know that what was taught to one was taught to all. 1 Cor 4:17 They don’t know God is not a respecter of person. Col 3:25 They don’t know that all doctrines of men are false doctrines, and are not permitted in the Lord’s Church. Mt 15:7-9

Often it all comes back to how one was converted to Christianity. If one is converted without understanding, they will fall away. Eph 5:17 If one is converted and is not aware or prepared that persecutions and tribulations are to follow, they will fall away. 2 Tim 3:12 If one is converted and is lead away by the riches of the world, they will fall away. Eph 6:3-10 Only when one is converted with understanding, prepared for persecutions, increases in the knowledge of God, puts on the whole armor of God, and is able to teach others the same will one remain faithful to the doctrine of Christ. Mt 13:18-23 ff; 1 Pet 2:20,21; Col 1:9,10; Eph 6:12-18; 2 Tim 4:2-5; 2 Jn 9

Just like the denominational convert, the misguided Christian can be belligerent and highly argumentative. This is normal and should not deter the devoted teacher. Since the misguided Christian usually knows the scriptures, it is helpful for the teacher to consistently remind them the basic principles of the scriptures with love and faith.  2 Tim 1:13 As James said, “Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.” James 5:19,20 Sadly, there are not too many like Apollos who was explained the error of his way and immediately changed to the truth. Acts 18:26 Nevertheless, a good teacher “must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient,  in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth,  and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will. “ 2 Tim 2:24-26
