Must Christian Women Be Veiled?

Must Christian Women Be Veiled

It has always been debated and reasoned as to whether Christian women must be veiled when they pray in or out of the assembly. The scriptures are quite plain when it comes to this subject when taken in consideration as a whole. Let us unveil the mystery of whether all Christian women must wear a veil.

First of all let us eliminate prophesying from this subject matter, knowing that prophesying was done away when that which was perfect was come (i.e. the New Testament). 1 Cor 13:8-10 The scriptures makes it very clear that no Christian man should be covered when praying since he is the image and glory of God. 1 Cor 11:4,7 If he prays covered he dishonors his head, Christ. 1 Cor 11:3 Since long hair is a covering, and the fact that man is prohibited from wearing a covering, long hair is a shame for man. 1 Cor 11:14 To this end there is no controversy.

However, most are confused as to whether women are to be covered, that is, wear a veil. Let us separate the facts that are undeniable. First of all, if a woman has long hair it is a glory to her, for her long hair is given her for a covering. 1 Cor 11:15 Therefore, if a woman has short hair she would need to be veiled. The question comes to mind: What is the definition of long hair? It is self evident that if a woman’s hair can’t cover her head then her hair is too short to be considered covered. If a man’s short hair is not considered a covering, any woman wearing short hair similar to a man is not covered as well.

Yet, that is not what is central in whether a Christian woman should be veiled in worship to God. Actually that question was answered by Paul when he silenced women from speaking in the churches. 1 Cor 14:33-40 If women can’t speak in the churches, they can’t pray aloud in the assemblies. Therefore, Christian women have no need to be veiled in the assembly. However, many women break this commandment with the approbation of church elders and unqualified men of the congregation acting as elders. Women are allowed to teach and pray publicly in bible classes in most churches. Therefore, they break two commandments of Jesus Christ when they do this: They speak when the bible said “speak not” and if they have short hair, they pray aloud when they are “veiled” not.

Conclusion: When God’s Word is perverted, error always follows, and thus the confusion over Christian women wearing veils in the churches. All Christian women must be covered when praying outside of the assembly.  It is a shame for any Christian woman to pray to God uncovered for she dishonors her head, the man. 1 Cor 11:3,5 If women keep silent in the churches as commanded, they would have no need to be covered. If women wore long hair they would be covered in and out of the assembly. Needless to say,  it is not a sin for any woman to wear a veil in or out of the assembly for whatever reason. However, let each Christian woman judge herself in determining as to whether she should be covered, for in the end it is God she shall give an account; 1 Cor 11:13 f; 2 Cor 13:5 And let not the elders of the church of Christ mislead Christian women into breaking the commandments of God by their vain traditions. Mt 15:7-9

Biblical Authority For Worship

Biblical Authority For Worship

Jesus informs us that “true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth” (Jn. 4:23). Therefore, we can surmise than anyone who doesn’t worship as such are false worshipers.  God will not accept the kind of worship created by the imaginations of man which is foreign to the Scriptures. God seeks people to worship him who will do so in Spirit and in truth. Jesus promised his apostles that the Holy Spirit would guide them into all truth (Jn. 4:24; 16:13). The New Testament is the complete will of God and it contains all that pertains to life and godliness (2 Tim. 3:16-17; 2 Pet. 1:3). The only place that we can find worship that is pleasing and acceptable to God is in the New Testament, and all else is not according to truth.

Unacceptable Kinds Of Worship

Nadab and Abihu are two men who took it upon themselves to alter the form of worship which God had delivered, and “fire went out from the Lord” and devoured these two men as a lesson that he is to be sanctified by those who come near him (Lev. 10:1-3). The worship of the Pharisees was in vain because the traditions and commandments of men had perverted or changed the true worship which God would accept (Matt. 15:7-9). The worship of the woman at the well in Samaria was in ignorance and the Lord pointed her in the right direction (Jn. 4:21-24). These are enough examples to prove the point that all forms of worship is not acceptable with God, but only worship which conforms to the pattern given by God’s holy Word. We must have biblical authority from God for everything that we do in worship if it’s our intention to please God. (Jn. 4:24).

What God Authorizes For Worship

There are only 5 specific acts of worship ordained by the scripture:

1. SINGING

“Speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord” Eph. 5:19  Those who are familiar with the Lord’s church know that instrumental music is not part of the worship of the church which we read about in the New Testament; therefore, we do not use instrumental music because such would pervert the worship which God has authorized, and cause it to be unacceptable in his sight. Because the Lord never mentioned the use of instrumental music or commanded such, new testament Christians revere the silence of God. 1 Pet 4:11

2. PREACHING GOD’S WORD

“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.” 1 Cor 1:18 “For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.” 1 Cor 1:21 “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long-suffering and doctrine.” 2 Tim 4:2 Each Sunday the church was taught by the means of preaching. Acts 20:7 This preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but words which were authorized by the Spirit, that our faith should not stand in the wisdom of man but in the power of God. 1 Cor 2:4-5  “These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.” 1 Cor 2:13 The pulpit of God has no room for preachers who preach smooth words and flattering speeches to lead away new born babes in Christ. Rom 16:17,18 Congregations should avoid preachers who use philosophy and vain deceit after the traditions of men and the rudiments of the world, but not after Christ. Col 2:8

3. PRAYING

“I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also:” 1 Cor 14:15 “I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting;” 1 Tim 2:8 “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” Jam 5:16 This is the confidence we have when Christians pray according to the Will of God. 1 Jn 5:14 Despite the false teaching of denominations, the prayers of sinners are not heard by God, for such are an abomination to God. Jn 9:31 ff; 1 Pet 3:12; Prov 28:9 Therefore, only members of the Church of Christ are heard by God, and their prayers are answered when they are offered according to God’s divine Will.

4. COMMUNION

“For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do you , as oft as you drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as you eat this bread, and drink this cup, you do show the Lord’s death till he come.” (Acts 20:7; 1 Cor. 11:23-26), Upon the first day of the week all true Christians assemble together to remember the Lord’s death by partaking of the communion of the Lord Jesus Christ. Omitting partaking of the Lord’s supper each Sunday is an abominable and foreign worship to God. Also, we must examine ourselves in order that we are worthy of partaking of the Lord’s supper lest we eat and drink damnation to our souls. 1 Cor 11:28,29

5. GIVING

“Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given orders to the churches of Galatia, so you must do also: On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come.” 1 Cor 16:1,2 The money given by the saints of God is for the saints only. It is not to be given unto sinners or any man-made organization to do the work of the church. The church of Christ is self sufficient to do the work of God which is the perfecting of the saints, the work of the ministry and the edifying of the church. Eph 4:12

BIBLICAL AUTHORITY FOR ALL WE DO

“And whatsoever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him” (Col. 3:17). “Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son.”  2 John 9  “The hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:23-24 All other kind of worship is called vain worship by Jesus Christ who said, “Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying: ‘These people draw near to Me with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me.  And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.'”  Matt 15:7-9 The bottom line is that we can’t worship God any way that we choose to worship God and still be pleasing unto God. Any perverted worship of God is unacceptable, and is an abomination to him. Therefore, let us worship the Lord our God as he seeks to be worshiped, and that is in Spirit and in Truth.

Does Jesus Christ Allow Women Preachers?

Does Jesus Christ Allow Women Preachers

Can a woman preach the Word of God? Obviously women do, and that in most every denomination in the world. To preach means to proclaim, to herald a message. Do women have God’s approbation to do that according to His Word? The inspired writer, and ordained preacher, and apostle Paul wrote, “I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence.” 1 Tim 2:12 Paul gave two reasons for that: Adam was first formed, and the woman was deceived in the transgression. Since Eve’s transgression in the Garden of Eden this is woman’s place from henceforth: “Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you” Gen. 3:16 Many say Paul can’t be believed. Nevertheless, what saith the scriptures? Gal 4:30

Was Paul A Sexist?

This argument has been made not only to escape the force of what Paul wrote in 1 Timothy 2:11-15, but also to nullify what he taught in Ephesians 5:22-25 about the husband being the head of the wife and what he wrote in Titus 2:4-5 about women being “obedient” to their husbands. It is held that Paul was bachelor, and obviously biased against women which to them proves his chauvinism.

However, to say this is to exclude that the Holy Spirit was to guide the apostles “into all truth” (Jn. 16:13-14).  Paul, an inspired writer, acknowledged and witnessed by God, Christ, and the Holy Spirit acclaimed 4 times that he lied not. Rom 9:1 ff; 2 Cor 11:31; Gal 1:20; 1 Tim 2:7 What he wrote to one church, he wrote to all churches. 1 Cor 4:17 Then to clinch it, Paul wrote, “If anyone thinks himself to be a prophet or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things I write to you are the commandments of the Lord” 1 Cor. 14:37 If Paul was a fraud and imposter then so is 14 books of the new testament. Also, one must of necessity erase Peter’s contributions in the new testament for he verified the writings of Paul as scripture. 2 Pet 3:16 Therefore, any accusation against Paul is also of necessity made against the Godhead and all of the apostles.

Changing Times Requires A Changing Word?

We live in a time where women have gained equality with man in the secular world. However, for women to gain the same equality in the church God’s Word of necessity must also change. Nevertheless, God never changes. Mal 3:6 Christ never changes. Heb 13:8 The Word is forever settled in heaven. Ps 119:89 This strikes at the all-sufficiency of the word of God to meet every need in the church for as long as the world stands. Peter let us know that we are equipped with “all things that pertain unto life and godliness”. 2 Pet. 1:3  The faith was “once for all delivered to the saints” (Jude 3). Changing the Word is accursed (Gal. 1:6-9). Going beyond the Word is unlearned. 1 Cor 4:6  Adding to the Word or subtracting from it is punishable. Rev. 22:18-19 The Word furnishes us to every good work. 2 Tim. 3:16-17  The New Testament is all-sufficient to guide the church and by the Holy Spirit Paul was guided to write, “I permit not a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be silence.”

Didn’t Women Prophesy?

Joel had written “your sons and your daughters shall prophesy” and Peter quoted that on Pentecost in Acts 2:17. Early in the New Testament we are introduced to Anna, a prophetess. Phillip the evangelist had four virgin daughters “which did prophesy” (Acts 21:8-9).  Yet, in all this women were silenced in the churches and remained under the headship of their own husbands. 1 Cor 14:33-40 f; 1 Tim 2:11-15 Paul took great care to protect the chain of authority which he detailed in 1 Corinthians 11:3: God over Christ-Christ over Man-Man over Woman. No one can prophesy today (male or female), for these gifts have ceased and thus the argument for women preachers based on this scenario collapses. 1 Cor 13:8-10

Can Man Authorize Women To Preach?

God does not give man the right to permit what the Holy Spirit said he did not permit. That is equal to saying 1 Timothy 2:12 forbids it, but I do permit it. What group of elders, deacons, preachers or other men have grown so large that they can say they permit the very thing the Holy Spirit guided an apostle to write and say he did not permit?

Pentecostal churches permit women preachers for many years. This has gradually spread to the mainline denominations, and now it is not uncommon to find women filling pulpits while others are studying in seminaries preparing for this work. The Catholic Church is faced with a possible rebellion from American Catholics over women in the priesthood. Sadly, some in the more liberal Churches of Christ have women taking on the roles of men such as making announcements, leading singing and waiting on tables. The bottom line is that no man has the authority from God to turn over his responsibility to women to preach and teach the Word of God. Adam gave heed to the Woman in the Garden of Eden, and was tossed out of the Garden. The Lord’s church is so much more precious and costly than the Garden of Eden. How much more punishment awaits all who commit the sin of Adam for harkening to his wife.

Woman’s Proper Role

Women have a very imperative role in the family and the church. They are to bear children, obey their husbands and to guide the home. If they marry a faithful Christian man they make him in part qualified to be an deacon or elder of the church. 1 Tim 3:1-13 If she marries a preacher she can be great asset to her husband even as Priscilla was to Aquila. Paul gave praise to women such a Phebe,  Euodias, and Syntyche, who helped him in his ministry. Rom 16:1 f; Philip 4:1-3 Faithful aged women are to teach married women to be chaste keepers at home, and subject to her husband and to love her husband and children. Tit 2: 3-5 The scriptures make it clear that women are the backbone of the home and church in their proper roles which are established by the scriptures. There is no way to have a successful home or church without the proper role of faithful Christian women.

Conclusion: If God commanded women to preach then where is the scripture to validate it? The whole matter of women preachers must be settled by a “thus saith the Lord.” And what he said through the apostle Paul is “I do not Allow it.” Take note of these facts concerning God’s Word: We can’t change it, rearrange it, add to it, or take from it. Rationalize it, minimize it, philosophize it, ridicule it, or simply ignore it, but the bottom line is that women are not permitted to preach the Word or to take authority over man in or out of the assemblies. 1 Tim 2:11,12 Woman can’t take on speaking roles in the churches. 1 Cor 14:33-40 She can teach her own children, and aged women can teach younger women to submit to their husbands in everything as unto the Lord. Women preachers is Man’s way. Women guiding the home is God’s way. Jesus verily commanded through the apostle Paul, “If anyone thinks himself to be a prophet or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things I write to you are the commandments of the Lord” 1 Cor 14:37 Blessed is the woman who does it God’s way!

Almost Persuaded, Almost, But Lost

Almost Persuaded, Almost But Lost

We sing the song, we hear the story, and yet so few understand the urgency of being saved. Most think they have many years to decide to devote their life to Jesus not knowing that life can disappear in the wink of an eye. Did not James tell us that life if but a vapor which appears for a little time, and then vanishes away? Jam 4:14 Did not Luke record how Felix delayed obeying the gospel for a more convenient season? Acts 24:25

How often we hear the analogy of a potential convert delay their baptism for another day and time, and in an instant they died and were buried before they had the chance to be buried with Christ in the watery grave of baptism. Rom 6:3,4 How often we are told that this confessed believer with a penitent heart has woken up in hell for making the tragic mistake of delaying. What is sad is that so many don’t take this warning very seriously, and perpetuate the notion that God will save when we delay to be baptized.

Delayed Baptism

There is not a single case of delayed baptism in the New Testament. “Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls” (Acts 2:41). “And he took them the same hour of the night (midnight) Acts 16:25, and washed their stripes, and was baptized, he and all his immediately” (Acts 16:33). Saul was commanded by Ananias,  “And now why do you delay? arise and be baptized and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord” (Acts 22:16). If all these didn’t delay, why should we? Do we dare tempt the patience of God who can toss both soul and body in hell in an instant? Mt 10:28 “Why stand we in jeopardy every hour?” 1 Cor 15:30 “Knowing therefore the terror of God, we persuade men.” 2 Cor 5:11

If Belief Was Enough

It is hard, and often impossible to save someone who doesn’t even know that they are lost. One cannot help but wonder about those “chief rulers” who “believed on” Jesus but would not confess Him, for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God. John 12:42,43. If belief alone was enough to save, then demons will be in heaven too. Did not James tell us that the demons believe and tremble? Jam 2:19 There is not one person in the entire new testament who ever believed only, and was saved.

False Hope

The Baptist are quick to say that the thief on the cross believed, and therefore cause for one to delay their salvation until the very hour of death. Thus, many today live a riotous life up until the very moment of death and then cry out “Lord I believe, save me!” Such has lead many into hell without once considering the false hope that the “thief on the cross” gives them.

Where is it recorded that the thief believed that Jesus was the Christ the Son of God? They are quick to say that Jesus forgave the thief of his sins, but that too was never recorded. They are quick to say that Jesus saved the thief, but that too was never recorded in the new testament. Don’t take my word for it, read it for yourself and you will find that all that Jesus told the thief was “Today you shall be with me in ‘Paradise’ “ Lk 23:40-43 Remember, David recorded these prophetic words about where Jesus went when he died, “For You will not leave my soul in Hades, nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.” And while you are reading, read the apostle Peter’s account of where Jesus went the three days he was in the belly of the earth, and you will find Jesus went to the part of the Hadean world which contained the wicked who were in prison. 1 Pet 3:18-20 This is where Jesus went, and this is where thief went as well. Unless one has proof one is saved in their sins, or forgiven after they have died, then it is conclusive, the thief was lost in his sins.

The Biblical Plan of Salvation

Who could disagree that Christ died that we might be saved, or that  His blood brings redemption by grace through faith? (Rom. 3:23; 5:6-8; Eph. 1:7; 2:8,9) Paul and Silas said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shalt be saved” (Acts 16:31). “That if you shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you shall be saved” (Rom. 10:9).  Then Jesus sent forth his apostles to preach the GOSPEL into all the World. Jesus commanded all of mankind to both believe and be baptized in order to be saved. Mk 16:15,16 Peter was in perfect harmony with the words of Jesus when he said, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins” (Acts 2:38). And again he said, “Baptism saves us now”. 1 Pet 3:21

Yes, hearing the gospel saves! 1 Tim 4:16 Yes, Believing Jesus is the Christ saves! Eph 2:8 Yes, Confessing this belief with all of our heart saves! Rom 10:10 Yes, Repenting of our sins saves! Lk 13:3 Yes, being buried with Christ by baptism saves! Rom 6:3,4 f; Mk 16:16 Yes, faithfulness saves! Rev 2:10 Yet, none of these by themselves saves anyone. It takes ALL of these in order for one to be saved. This is the gospel Jesus and his apostles proclaimed, and every Christian convert in the new testament obeyed. Don’t delay your salvation, for as Paul recorded, “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” 2 Cor 6:2 Today, if you will hear his voice, and harden not your heart, for his hand is stretched out still. Heb 3:7,8 f; Isa 9:17

To Whom Shall We Go?

Whom Shall We Go

Jesus asked his disciples, “Will you also go away?” Peter said, “Lord, to whom shall we go for you, for you have the words of eternal life.” Jn 6:67,68 It is true that Jesus no longer walks upon the earth healing the sick, making the lame to walk, or seeking and saving the lost. It is true that the last apostle died on the Isle of Patmos approximately 1900 years ago. However, in ways the bible teaches us, Jesus and his disciples are with us to this very day.

Ambassadors of Christ

Every preacher or teacher who follows exactly after the teaching of Jesus is his ambassador. An ambassador is a person who acts as a representative or promoter of a specified activity. In other words, they are a messenger. They speak only what they are specifically told to speak, and no more. They carry the message of another, and not their own agenda. The apostles were ambassadors for Christ. Paul said, “Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.” 2 Cor 5:20  And again he said, “I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.” Eph 6:20

There is ample proof that all of the apostles of Christ were even as Paul. Peter and John said, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.” Acts 4:19,20 By speaking only what God revealed to them through the Holy Spirit, they were ambassadors of Christ. Though Jesus had long been resurrected from the dead, his messengers were still speaking in his stead. In other words, by following the apostles we are following Christ. All Christian converts continued in the doctrine of the apostles because their doctrine was exactly the same as the doctrine of Christ. Acts 2:42 f; 2 Jn 9

Follow The Apostles

Paul told the Corinthians, “Be followers (imitators) of me even as I also am of Christ.” 1 Cor 11:1 Paul commanded the Thessalonians to “Stand firm and hold the traditions which you have been taught by word or our epistle.” 2 Thess 2:15 And then he concluded by saying this, “For you yourselves know how you ought to follow us..” 2 Thess 3:7 Paul was adamant and stringent in his teaching, and made it clear that whatever he taught he received from Jesus Christ. To the Galatians he said, “But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.” Gal 1:11,12 Paul wanted us to learn from the apostles that all Christians are not to go beyond that which was written. 1 Cor 4:6

Follow Faithful Elders and Preachers

To a young Timothy Paul in essence passed the baton from the apostles to faithful Christian men when he said, “The things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.” 2 Tim 2:2 Take note that Paul did not pass on the responsibility to unfaithful men. Anyone who taught the traditions of men were condemned by both Jesus and His apostles. Mt 15:7-9 f; Tit 1:14 If anyone teaches any other gospel than that which the apostles taught they will be accursed. Gal 1:6-9 If anyone abides by any other doctrine other than the doctrine of Christ they have not God. 2 Jn 9 We shall all be judged by the gospel of the apostles by Jesus Christ come the day of judgment. Rom 2:16

Today, all faithful Christian men speak where the bible speaks and remain silent where the bible is silent. 1 Pet 4:11 f; Rev 22:18,19 Prophets of God spoke only in the name of the Lord and revealed only what the Holy Spirit instructed them to speak, and not their personal opinions. Jam 5:10 f; 2 Pet 1:20,21 Jeremiah revealed this about true prophets, “He that has my Word, let him speak my word faithfully.” Jer 23:28 Paul commissioned elders in every Church and charged them to “Hold firm the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those who contradict.” Titus 1:9 Paul commissioned all preachers to “Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season.” 2 Tim 4:2 “Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. That good thing which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.” 2 Tim 1:13-14

Paul made it abundantly clear where he received his revelation: “These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.” 1 Cor 2:13 “For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus’ sake, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. So then death is working in us, but life in you.  And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed and therefore I spoke,” we also believe and therefore speak,” 2 Cor 4:10-13 As Paul said to the Corinthians, ” Walk we not in the same Spirit? Walk we not in the same steps?” 2 Cor 12:18 Truly Christ lives within us if we speak that which was written via the Holy Spirit. As God commissioned Christ to come into the world and speak only what he commanded him to speak;  Jn 12:49,50 As Christ commissioned his apostles to speak what he commanded them to speak; Jn 17:8,18 Even so the apostles commissioned us today to preach the same gospel and the same doctrine which emanated directly from God the Father who inspired every single word of the bible. 2 Tim 2:2; 4:2-5 ff; Jn 7:16,17; 2 Tim 3:16,17

Follow only those who are following the new testament gospel and doctrine exactly as it was written, and delivered by the apostles through the Holy Spirit. To make sure who is speaking the Word of Truth all Christians are commissioned to search the scriptures, study the scriptures, and to prove the scriptures to make sure what they are being taught is from Christ and his apostles. IF they are, FOLLOW them even as you would follow CHRIST, for such were given charge of your soul. Acts 20:28-31 f; Heb 13:7,17

Heartfelt Feelings Are The Result of Our Faith

Heartfelt Feelings Are The Result of Our Faith

Man cannot find the way to God by the feelings of his own heart. God has to direct our steps and we must follow those steps with complete trust that they will lead us to him. The New Testament is filled with admonitions for the Christian to study God’s word and be able to answer any man that asks concerning the hope that we have in Christ (2 Tim. 2:15; 2 Pet. 3:18; 1 Pet. 3:15). We are also taught that the things that have been written can be understood when we read (Eph. 3:3-4). The reason they have been written is because, as Jeremiah the prophet said, “I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walks to direct his steps” (Jer. 10:23). Paul made it clear that we must submit to the knowledge of God in order to be saved. Paul said, “Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved. For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God.” Rom 10:1-4 The Pharisees practiced this same type of religion in the first century, and Jesus Christ condemned it as vain religion for they followed the doctrines of men and not the doctrine of Christ.  (Matt. 15:9 f; 2 Jn 9).

The religion of Jesus Christ is a ‘heart religion’, but it is not the ‘heartfelt religion’ where assurance of salvation is based on how one feels, rather than what the Word of God teaches (Rom. 8:16-17). Our obedience to God must come from the heart, and He is not pleased unless the heart is right with HIM. God has always asked that we love him with all of our heart, soul, and mind. This Jesus said was the first and greatest commandment. (Mt 22:37,38) Therefore, we must believe with all of our heart that Jesus is the Christ the Son of God. (Rom 10:9,10)

In the heart: Evil Thought is formed (Mk. 7:21). Sin is committed (Matt. 5:28). Condemnation is felt (1 Jn. 3:20).  Decision is purposed  (2 Cor. 9:7) Speech is born (Matt. 12:34-37). Belief is formed and Confession is spoken (Rom. 10:10) Obedience is given (Rom. 6:17). And Forgiveness is granted (Matt. 18:35).

Members of the body (the church) of Christ walk by faith and not by fleshly feelings (2 Cor. 5:7 f; Col 1:18). Our true heart felt faith comes from hearing the Word of God, burning within our hearts as the scriptures are opened up to us by the means of preaching. (Rom. 10:14,17 f; Lk 24:32), Our heart is attuned to Gospel which was preached and heard in every nation, which every new testament convert obeyed. (Mt 28:19,20 f; 1 Cor 15:1-4) Our feelings are the result of our faith, and not our faith the result of our feelings. Christians believe in “heartfelt religion” the way the Bible teaches it, but not the kind man-made religions ascribe.

Just because one feels they are saved based upon their emotions doesn’t make one saved. One is saved based upon the knowledge of God’s Word. There are many kinds of heart felt emotions, but there is only one Faith which comes from the heart, and only one Baptism which is Faith placed into action. Eph 4:4 ff; Mk 16:16; Jam 2:20 The scriptures reveals that we can’t trust our feelings when it comes to salvation (Prov. 28:26 ff; Jer. 10:23; Prov. 14:12). If we trust in God (Prov. 3:5), the Scripture can make one wise unto salvation (2 Tim. 3:15; 2 Pet. 1:3).

Once one has believed from the heart and confess with the mouth that Jesus is the Christ, then we must of necessity have a change of heart. We must turn from the fleshly heart which lusts after the things of the flesh, and turn to spiritual things of the Spirit. Gal 5:19-23 This is accomplished by the means of repentance. (Lk 13:3 f; Acts 17:30) Then one must cleanse their heart from sinful desires by the means of baptism. (Jam 4:8 ff; Acts 22:16; Acts 2:38) The Baptist church teaches that baptism does not save. God says just the opposite in his inspired word.  Peter said, “The like figure where unto even baptism does also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ” (1 Pet. 3:21). Read the context of this verse and you will find that Noah was “saved by water” and we also in a like figure are saved by water. Faith verily saves, but not faith only. (Jam 2:24) Baptism verily saves, but not baptism only.  Yea, rather, a confessed believer with a penitent heart who is baptized shall be saved. (Mk. 16:16; Acts 2:38). Then, and only then comes the biblical “heart-felt” action of rejoicing, even as the Eunuch rejoiced after he was baptized into the body, the church of Christ. Acts 8:37-39 Therefore, Heartfelt feelings are the result of our faith, and not our faith the result of our Heartfelt feelings.

Assassins Among Us

Assassins Among Us

Since the beginning of time here on earth man has been killing that which is good. Seemingly, all that is evil can’t stand to be in the presence of good for very long. Is it any wonder why God’s prophets were slain by wicked hands? Is it any wonder why Christ was violently killed? Is it any wonder why the apostles and early day Christians were killed? Is it any wonder today that the truth bearers of God’s Word are killed as well? One might say, “Christians are not killed today as they were in times past.” Remember this, there are millions of ways to kill a person without laying a hand upon them. Among such methods is to starve them to death by not hiring them to do the only thing they know to do, and that is, to PREACH the WORD of GOD!  Let us examine why the righteous are killed by wicked hands.

Most all know the story of how Cain killed Abel, but do you know why? The bible tells us that both offered sacrifice to God, but only Abel’s sacrifice was favored by God. Cain became very angry and his countenance fell. Gen 4:5 Remember, where there is no law, there is no sin. Rom 4:15 Knowing this fact, it is easy to deduce that God had given a law concerning sacrifice. Therefore God said to Cain, “If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door.” Gen 4:7 Cain eventually killed Abel, and eventually God confronted Cain about the murder of his brother. If Cain had in his mind that with Abel out of the way he would have God’s favor, he was badly mistaken.

Cain replied, “Am I my brother’s keeper?” when God asked where Abel was. Isn’t it common to this very day that the devious way to answer a question is with another question? Today, many believe just like Cain that they are not responsible for the condition of their brother. This is why Jesus commanded that we not only love our neighbor as ourselves, but our brother in Christ as Christ also loved us. This means as Christ died for us, we must also be prepared to die for our brethren. God confronted Cain point blank that Abel’s blood cried from the ground. This was God’s way of telling Cain, “I know what you did.” Then God punished Cain by turning him into a fugitive and a vagabond. Gen 4:12

It was jealousy and envy that caused Cain to kill his righteous brother Abel. The apostle Paul said those who are who are full of envy and strife are destitute of the truth, and reject the doctrine of Christ, because money is their God. 1 Tim 6:3-10 These are they who preach with good words and fair speeches to deceive the hearts of the simple in order to fill their own bellies. Rom 16:17,18 Peter said we must remove deceit and envy from us, and desire the sincere milk of the Word that we may grow thereby. 1 Pet 2:1,2

False doctrines fills the pews and makes rich the few who run the organizations of denominations. How many preachers of denominations have openly admitted in private that they were wrong, but that being right didn’t pay their bills. The true prophets of God didn’t prosper, but the 450 false prophets of Jezebel did. This is why Ahab accused Elijah of troubling Israel. Jesus and his apostles didn’t prosper, but the Jews of the temple did. This is why Jesus was killed. This is why the apostles were killed, and this is why anyone who stands up for the truth today will be killed. Saul of Tarsus prospered among the Jews, but as the apostle Paul he suffered greatly.

I personally have faced death several times in my life. Once I recall walking into a liberal church of Christ in order to see how far they were removed from the truth. They met me at the door and said, “You can worship with us, but if you open your mouth even once, we will physically kick you out!” This they said with their fist doubled up, and anger in their countenance. I have preached in a conservative church of Christ which told me that if I preached that women must remain silent in the churches that they would see that I never preached again. I have had to work secular work, even as Paul, in order to support myself in the preaching of the gospel. I have had to reject my personal needs and go without that the Word of truth be preached. I have had an adulterous preacher and his wife who prospered much in the church slander my name all because I taught that there was only one exception for divorce and remarriage. Mt 19:9 I have been envied and hated among family members, and even had an attempt on my life even as Abel (only God prevented it). And today, even as I was gardening in my own yard I had another attempt on my life by a drive by assailant (thanks be unto God who strayed the bullet).

Yes, if you are a servant of God, there will be assassins after you too. They came after the fathers and prophets of old, and they came after Christ and his disciples of the new, and if we are following God today, they will come after us as well. They threw Daniel into a lions den and the Hebrew children into a fiery furnace. Others were stoned, starved, homeless, cut in half, and imprisoned. Heb 11 Men like Elijah, Elisha and John the Baptist didn’t desire to go without, but they had to choose between following God or wealth. Mt 6:24 “Yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service.”  Jn 16:2 It is expected that the servant is not above his Master. “Marvel not my brethren if the Word hate you.” 1 Jn 3:13  If it hated you, you know it hated me before it hated you.” Jn 15:18  They who spoke in the name of the Lord chose God, and so do I. Will you? Jam 5:10 f; Josh 24:14,15

Is The Church of Christ a Cult?

Is The Church of Christ A Cult

If you are a Christian, you may have been slandered by the denominations who are in the habit of calling the churches of Christ a cult. It is not uncommon for Christians (defined here as those who follow the teachings of Jesus Christ as revealed in the Bible) to be accused of various evils.  In fact, Christ himself was verbally persecuted (Matt. 11:19), and “a disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master” (Matt. 10:24). If Christ was falsely accused of evil, so will be his disciples. Calling the churches of Christ a cult indicts not only the individual Christian on whom the accusation is thrown, but also all Christians everywhere.

What Constitutes a Cult?

The word cult in current popular usage is a pejorative term for a new religious movement or other group whose beliefs or practices are considered abnormal or bizarre by the larger society. Usage of the word has been controversial. One reason is that the word “cult” (as used in the pejorative sense) is considered a subjective term, used as an attack against groups with simply differing doctrines or practices, and without a clear or consistent definition. By this definition all religions could be considered a cult.

Examples of a Cult Would Be:

The Branch Davidians, who under David Koresh’s leadership, met their demise in a bloody standoff with U.S. federal agents; Heaven’s Gate, who committed mass suicide in the belief that a spaceship in the tail of the Hale-Bop comet would transport them to paradise; The Moonies, who believe that their founder, Sun Yung Moon, and his wife, are the perfect human couple. The people’s temple, under the rule of Jim Jones who met their end in a mass suicide in Jonestown, Guyana.

Is it fair to call any religious group a cult just because they worship differently and their doctrine can’t be proven by the new testament? If it is, then it is easy to classify the Catholic church a cult for they are under the authority of one man, the Pope, and their doctrine is not found in the new testament. The Mormons is another religion which came about by the pure imagination of Joseph Smith which was revealed in the book he wrote called the Mormon bible. It would be just as easy to classify the Church of Scientology, Christian Science, the Jehovah’s Witnesses, the Seventh Day Adventist, and the Worldwide Church of God (Armstrongism) as cults because none of these have their doctrines founded in the new testament. In fact, all denominations are cults by this definition because they have intermingled both the old and new testaments into one to form strange and perverse doctrines which are contrary to the doctrine of Christ.

Is The Church of Christ a Cult?

According to denominations, yes. Nevertheless, what saith the scriptures. Gal 4:30 The churches of Christ takes its name from its founder, Jesus Christ. Rom 16:16 f; Col 1:18 The churches of Christ requires obedience to the gospel of Christ for one to be added to it by the Lord. Acts 2:47 The gospel defined in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 requires one to believe with the heart and confess with the mouth that Jesus is the Christ; Rom 10:9,10 Then one must repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; Acts 2:38 And then one must remain faithful unto death. Rev 2:10 The churches of Christ worships God in Spirit and in truth according to the doctrine of Christ. Jn 4:23,24 f; 2 Jn 9 They worship on Sunday; Acts 20:7 They take the Lord’s Supper and give of their means freely. 1 Cor 11:24-26 ff; 1 Cor 16:1,2; 2 Cor 9:6,7 They sing with the mouth and make music with the heart to the Lord. Eph 5:19 They hear the Word by the means of preaching. Acts 20:7 f; 2 Tim 4:2-5 They stand on the principles of not adding to or taking from God’s Word. Rev 22:18,19 f; 1 Cor 4:6

I admit that there are many liberal minded brethren who have drifted from the truth, though they bear the same name and resemblance to the church of Christ. These churches are the ones who don’t believe God’s Word was entirely inspired. 2 Tim 3:16 These are they who go beyond what was written. 1 Cor 4:6 In many instances, these are no better and in some cases worse than the denominations. Beware and withdraw from the error such as these, for they do not abide by the doctrine of the apostles or Christ, but rather follow the traditions of men. Col 2:8 f; Mt 15:7-9

Conclusion:  If the church of Christ is a cult then color me crazy and pass the crayons, because there is no church on earth which derives its teaching directly from the new testament only, but the churches of Christ. If, the churches of Christ is a cult, then it is the only one whose only leader is Christ. Eph 1:22,23 It would be the only one whose gospel and doctrine derived from Christ and His apostles. 2 Jn 9 f; Acts 2:42 To call the church of Christ a cult is to indict God the Father, for Christ truly revealed that the doctrine he taught derived from God. Jn 7:16,17

The church of Christ is not a man-made organization that quarantines, manipulates, brainwashes, or deceives its members in any way, shape or form; but rather it is a group of gospel obeyed Christians who are trying their best to serve God according to apostolic doctrine, Acts 2:42 to convert and to save souls from death, Jam 5:19,20 and to obtain eternal life promised by God before the world began. Tit 1:2 Anyone who charges otherwise is ignoring the evidence, and committing slander against each of its members, to the apostles, to Jesus Christ, to God the Father, and to the Holy Spirit which revealed every part of their doctrine. Jn 16:13 Remember, to slander Christians, Christ or even God is forgivable, but to slander the Holy Spirit, this we know is unforgivable! Mt 12:31 ff; Mk 3:29; Lk 12:10

The Scriptures Verily Said What It Meant and Meant What It Said

The Scriptures Verily Said What It Meant and Meant What It Said

Men debate what God has concluded, and question what God has answered. Ps 119:89 How often the scripture are read in a bible class, and the teacher will break down the verse word by word. They will discuss the sentence structure, the history of the writer, the circumstances surrounding the subject, and the definitions of each word. By the time they are complete an hour is past, the scripture has a whole new meaning, and next week they will proceed to the next verse. The only trouble with this method is that it’s calling God’s Word into question, and spending a lifetime on what God made so easy to understand. Is the bible so hard to understand that it takes a doctorate degree to understand it? Did not the scriptures instruct us that the Word is simple to understand? 2 Cor 11:3 God verily commands us to read and study the Word, but not to remain a novice every day of your life. Eventually there comes a time when students become teachers, and and teachers become converters of the soul. Heb 5:12-14 f; Jam 5:19,20

What Is So Hard To Understand?

Does it take a astronomer to understand that God created the heaven and the earth, and all that is contained therein in 6 days, and on the 7th day God rested? Gen 1:1-31 f; Gen 2:1,2 Does it take a Harvard lawyer to comprehend that God gave Israel 613 commandments, 10 of which were written in stone? Ex 20:3-17 Does it take a forensic scientist to determine that Jesus Christ was crucified for our sins, was buried and arose again the 3rd day? 1 Cor 15:1-4 Does it take a Greek and Hebrew professor to understand that scriptures commanded confessed believers to repent and be baptized, and remain faithful till death in order to be saved? Mk 16:16 ff; Rom 10:10; Acts 2:38; Rev 2:10

Consider This:

Do you know why most denominations cease to debate what the scriptures actually said, and have taken their argument to worded definitions? It is because they know the bible if taken ‘as is’ contradicts their doctrine. So they do what Bill Clinton did that most thought so devious and outrageous when he said with bold face, “It Depends on what the meaning of the word is is” concerning the Monica Lewensky scandal. What is sad to witness more than this, is that there are misguided brethren who use Clinton’s method of deception to come to their false conclusions.

Biblical Warnings

The scriptures warn us against such misuse of the scripture. Paul said, “Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen.” 2 Tim 2:14 This Paul said just before he wrote one of the most quoted verses in the bible, “Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Tim 2:15 Paul instructed us why false teachers argue over words when he said that such “consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;” 1 Tim 6:3 1 “He is proud, knowing nothing, but is obsessed with disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife, reviling, evil suspicions, useless wranglings of men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. From such withdraw yourself.” Tim 6:4-5 This ‘Gain’ Paul mentioned was identified as the love of money, which is the root of all evil and causes men to err from the faith. 1 Tim 6:10

Conclusion: When we stop trying to read between the lines, and only abide what is on the line we will obey what God intended for us to obey. God’s Word never says yes and no. 2 Cor 1:18  Did not Paul say that he used great plainness of speech. 2 Cor 3:12 Where has God ever condemned when he commanded not or spoke it? Jer 19:5 Is it not written that where there in no law there is no sin? Rom 4:15  The Word of God is perfect, flawless and has been tested and proven. Ps 18:30 f; Ps 12:6 Every Word of the bible proceeded from God, and God can’t lie. 2 Tim 3:16 f; Heb 6:18 Every prophet of God and every apostle of Jesus received every Word they wrote from the Holy Spirit, who in turn received all he revealed from God. Jesus said he spoke nothing but what God commanded him to speak. Jn 12:49,50 If we add to it, subtract from it, or change it in any way, shape or form, we shall be accursed. Rev 22:18,19 f; Gal 1:6-9  The scriptures verily said what it meant, and meant what it said; and what it said was for us to fear God and keep his commandments for this is the whole duty of man. Eccl 12:13 f; Jn 14:15 We are commanded to obey His gospel, abide by His doctrine and remain faithful unto death. Rom 2:16 ff; 2 Jn 9; Rev 2:10 We might as well face it, we shall be judged by what God actually said, and not by what man says God said. Jn 12:48

The Last Thing That Should Be On Your Mind Come The Day Of Judgment

The Last Thing That Should Be On Your Mind Come The Day Of Judgment

In this present temporary life that we live in, we have many worries and concerns which fill our days which have nothing to do with our salvation. How often have you worried about your health, your wealth, or your possessions. There are countless things which causes us to loose sleep at night, but come the day of judgment none of these will not be on our minds. What will be on our mind come that fateful day?

Did I Obey the Gospel?

Every bible student knows that if they obey the gospel of Christ that they have a chance to win eternal life. If they are a serious student they also know that there is only one way to obey the gospel. What a sad thought to have on the day of judgment to finally conclude that you may not have obeyed the gospel which Jesus Christ and his apostles commanded. If we have never believed with the heart and confessed with the mouth that Jesus is the Christ the Son of God; Rom 10:9,10 If we never repented of our sins and had them washed away by the means of baptism; Acts 2:38 Then we have no opportunity to have Jesus say to us, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” Mt 25:21

If we believed but confessed not, then we are lost. If we believed and confessed but repented not, then we are lost. If we believed, confessed and repented but were baptized not, then we are lost. If we believed, confessed, repented and were baptized but our baptism was by means of sprinkling then we are lost. If we believed, confessed, repented and were baptized but our baptism was not for the remission of sins, then we are lost. If we believed, confessed, repented and were baptized and ramained not faithful unto death, then we too are lost. Rev 2:10 Let not these questions be on your mind come the day of judgment.

Did I Follow The Doctrine of Christ?

In this life it appears to be the thoughts of millions that they can worship God any way that they choose. Many reject the notion that they must worship God in Spirit and in truth. Jn 4:23,24 Many scoff at the idea that instrumental music was rejected by God. Eph 5:19 Many laugh at the possibility that we are to remember the Lord’s death each first day of the week. Acts 20:7 f; 1 Cor 11:24-26 Many don’t believe that women are not to be speakers in the church assembly. 1 Cor 14:33-40 Many take it lightly that we are commanded not to forsake the assembly. Heb 10:25 Many can’t see the urgency to lay by and store as we have prospered each first day of the week. 1 Cor 16:1,2 Many can’t see God condemning our soul to hell if we fail to worship God the way God desires to be worshiped. Let not these questions be on your mind come the day of judgment.

Did I Suffer Persecution?

I have heard of a few men who have trembled at the question late in their life wondering why they were not counted worthy to suffer persecution. The scriptures tell us all who will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. 2 Tim 3:12 This means that if we haven’t suffered persecution for the Lord (Not to be mistake for suffering for our evil deeds 1 Pet 4:15), then we are not going to be saved. The prophets suffered; Jam 5:10 The apostles suffered; 2 Cor 11:23-28 And every saint of God who ever followed in the steps of the Savior suffered. 2 Tim 3:12 f; 1 Pet 2:21 Every Christian will suffer alike, for God is not a respecter of person. 1 Pet 5:9,10 f; Col 3:25 Don’t be standing in the presence of God and then discover you were blessed in life beyond measure, and suffered not for the cause of Christ. Lk 6:24-26 Let not these questions be on your mind come the day of judgment.

Did I Do The Works of God?

Shall we wonder come that dreadful day if we have loved our neighbor as ourselves? Mt 22:39 Shall we ask ourselves if we loved our fellow brethren even as Christ also loved us? Jn 13:34,35 Shall we ponder if we loved and prayed for our enemies? Mt 5:43-45 Shall we question ourselves if we did good unto all men, especially fellow saints? Gal 6:10  Let not our marital status be the one thing that prevents us receiving our crown of life. Let us depart from fornications and adulteries and all the works of the flesh that none hinder us from entering into the pearly gates. Gal 5:19-21

Let us not query if we studied to show ourselves approved of God. 2 Tim 2:15 Let us never doubt if we were ashamed to teach the gospel of Christ. Rom1:16 Let us never think we didn’t contend for the faith. Jude 3 Let us not wonder if anyone’s blood is upon us for failing to instruct them. Acts 20:26 Let us not second guess ourselves if we were prepared to answer every question concerning God’s Word. 1 Pet 3:15 Let us not query if we proved the scripture by God’s Word, and not by the wisdom of men. 1 Thess 5:21 f; 1 Cor 2:4,5 Let not these questions be on your mind come the day of judgment.

Conclusion: Actually, the last thing that should be on your mind come the day of judgment, should be the first thing on your mind every day God grants you upon this earth. There are many things that we should examine ourselves in this life long before we stand before the Almighty. Paul commanded that we should examine ourselves whether we be in the faith. 2 Cor 13:5 If we would judge ourselves we should not be judged with the world come the day of judgment. 1 Cor 11:31,32 So I give to you the same advice that I take myself, and that is, learn God’s Word as is, obey God’s Word as is, and be faithful to God’s Word as is. Then come the day of judgment we know of the God who cannot lie, (Heb 6:18) his scriptures cannot be broken, (Jn 10:35) who cannot deny himself, (2 Tim 2:13) and who is faithful who has promised. (Heb 10:23)  Someone who stands before God having done all this have nothing to fear when they stand before God. Let that someone be you!
