What God Wants Out of Us

All of our life we are taught to be all we can be in this life. We are taught to reach for the stars, and accomplish all that we can. We are taught to get a good education, and turn that education into a good living. It is with that knowledge we get married, have children, and grow old and die. If you want the true meaning of life, God possesses the answer for you. If you want to know what life is all about, God holds the solution. So what is it that God wants from you?

God Wants You To Learn of Him

It was Jeremiah the prophet which said, “But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me, That I am the Lord, exercising loving kindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,” says the Lord. Jer 9:24 Jesus said, take my yoke upon you and learn of me. God wants us to learn of Him and His divine Word. Until we read the bible, study the bible, and rightly divide the Word of truth, we can’t fully obey the One who holds the power of eternal life. Rev 1:3; 1 Tim 4:13; 2 Tim 2:15; Tit 1:2

God Wants Your Faith in Him

Without faith, it’s impossible to please God. Heb 11:6 Jesus said, “Except you believe that I am he, you shall die in your sins.” Jn 8:24; Every servant of God who was found acceptable with God had to first place their faith in God. Heb 11 Anyone who doesn’t believe in God is automatically condemned, no matter what else they do in life. Jn 3:18 God wants us to believe Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God and to confess this belief before men. Rom 10:9,10; Mt 10:32,33

God Wants Your Obedience

If all that one had to do was to believe Jesus is the Christ and they would be saved, it is evident billions would be saved. Yet, the bible made it very clear that only a few would find the strait and narrow way which leads to life everlasting. Mt 7:13,14 Jesus said, “He that believes and is baptized shall be saved.” James wrote that our faith was dead without works, but he wasn’t speaking of the works of men. Jam 2:19,20 He was speaking of the works of God. Even faith was called works. Jn 6:28,29 Luke wrote, “…That they should repent and turn to God, and do works befitting repentance.” Acts 26:20 “Having been buried with him in baptism, wherein you were also raised with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead” (Col. 2:12 Therefore, faith+repentance+baptism are all the works approved of by God which leads us to salvation. “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” Eph 2:10

God Wants Your Faithfulness

God made it abundantly clear that he wants us to be faithful to him. Christ, our husband demands faithfulness of his bride, the church. If we obey the gospel of Christ, if we endure temptations, and if we endure persecutions, we shall receive a crown of life. 2 Thess 1:7-9; Jam 1:12; 2 Tim 3:12 Make no mistake about it, we can all fall from grace. Gal 5:4 Consider the goodness and severity of God, who cut off Israel for their disobedience and grafted the Gentiles in their place. However, if we don’t continue in God’s goodness, we also shall be cut off. Rom 11:22

Conclusion: Peter said it well, “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is long-suffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9 God is not willing to cast any into hell, but will cast all into hell who obey not the gospel of Jesus Christ. 2 Thess 1:7-9 God shall judge us all by His Word according to our deeds. Jn 12:48

God wanted his Son to die on the cross, and he did. Jn 3:16 God wanted his apostles to preach the Word into all the world and they did. Col 1:23 It’s not what we want out of life that matters, but rather what God wants out of us. God wants us to obey the gospel of Christ, and remain faithful to it. Everything else is meaningless if we don’t please the One who gave life unto us all.  Ps 100:3; 1 Pet 4:19

Trust The Bible For Truth

When most Christians read the bible they will tell you that the bible is all sufficient. Well, they used to, but not today. Today the bible has been maligned, debated, and ridiculed to the point that only a few trust it anymore. Yes, they still go to it when it proves their doctrine, but when it challenges their beliefs, they will try to redefine it, attack its writers, or say mistakes contained therein. Some are even adding to it by adding their own books (Mormons and Catholics). The question is: Is the bible truly all sufficient, or isn’t it?

Was God The True Author of the Bible?

The bible is most investigated books in all creation. Not only do religious people read and study it, but also those who don’t even believe in God. Researchers have determined that the bible had 40 individual authors over a 1600 year period. It’s also been concluded that though most of these writers never knew one another, or were privy to their writing, yet all 40 writers wrote as though they were one person, with one theme, all reaching the same conclusion.

The bible contains no viable contradictions, and contains no mistakes. The bible is so easy to understand that most 12 year old children can understand it. Yet, the bible said it more plainly if only man would believe it, “All scriptures are given by the inspiration of God, and is profitable for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” 2 Tim 3:16

Were The Fathers and Prophets and Apostles Inspired?

The fathers and prophets thousands of years in advanced prophesied of the coming of the Lord to pin point accuracy. The first 5 books, the Pentateuch, was written by Moses by God’s direction. Peter said, “Prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.” 2 Peter 1:21

Jesus himself bore record of the apostles inspiration. Jesus told them verily that the Spirit of God would reveal to them what to say, and to write. “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.” John 16:13 Paul said that he certified that what he preached came by the revelation of Jesus Christ. Gal 1:11,12 Jesus himself neither said anything, or did anything except he receive commandment from His heavenly Father. Jn 12:19,50

Mistakes in Translations?

Every homosexual and lesbian sure hopes the bible is not infallible. Every adulterer who refuses to adhere to the Word of God sure hopes the bible has mistakes contained therein. Most claim that the fallibility of man only concludes that the bible which was written by man is also fallible.

There have been many versions of the bible written, and a few of them have proven untrustworthy. Literal versions which have translated “As Is” (KJV, NKJV, ASV, and NASV) have proven themselves over time to be impeccable for accuracy. Yes, the KJV has archaic words written from the 16th Century. Yes, there are colloquial words added which have since been corrected. However, the only mistake we can make with the bible is not believing it, trusting it, and obeying it.

Conclusion: The bible was totally inspired of God. The fathers, and prophets, and Jesus and his apostles were totally inspired via the Holy Spirit. We can trust the bible for 100% accuracy. The bible is all sufficient, and is the only book we need to be saved. 2 Pet 1:3

The Gospel, In The Hands Of Fallible Man

Have you ever noticed that the best teachers are the ones who have already gone through the experience themselves. The over weight man who loses the weight makes a better instructor, compared to the one who’s been thin and in shape all of their life. The alcoholic or drug addict who manages to defeat their addiction is a better instructor, compared to one who has never battled any addiction. So, does the same principle apply to teachers and preachers of the gospel?

David’s Great Sin

The psalmist David, the second king of Israel committed a great sin before God, and before all Israel. He committed adultery with the wife of Uriah, Bathsheba, and then had this man placed in the front line of heated battle so that he might be killed. Yet, David repented, and went on to lead Israel impeccably. David spoke about forgiveness like no other could. He said, “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.” Ps 32:1 David knew this more than anyone, for God had forgiven his great sin. Who with more authority could say, “If You, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with You, That You may be feared.” Ps 130:3-4 David, a man after God’s own heart knew he should have been killed for his sin according to the law of Moses, and knew only God could forgive such an evil deed, and continue to let him stand, and to lead. Acts 13:22

Solomon’s Wealth and Women

No man or woman on this planet was or is more richer than Solomon. Because Solomon asked for wisdom and not riches, God blessed him with more wealth than any man before or since. Only a man like Solomon could write about the dangers of riches. He warned, “Labor not to be rich: cease from your own wisdom.” Prov 23:4 And again he said, “Give me neither poverty nor riches — Feed me with the food allotted to me;” Prov 30:8

Solomon never sought to be rich, and the wisdom granted Solomon was the wisdom of God, and not the wisdom of man. Only Solomon, who had 700 wives and 300 concubines could warn man that a good woman was hard to find. He said, “One man among a thousand I have found, but a woman among all these I have not found.” Eccl 7:28 Despite all of Solomon’s warnings about strange women, he himself fell prey to many of them, and the idols they worshiped, and turned his heart from God. Prov 9:17,18; Prov 22:14; 1 Kings 11:1-11 Even in his failures, Solomon still teaches us that even with great wisdom, mankind can fall from grace. Gal 5:4

Saul The Tormentor

Long before the apostle Paul became the chief writer of the new testament, he was the chief tormenter of the church. It was for this reason Paul called himself the chiefest sinner, and the least apostle. 1 Tim 1:15; 1 Cor 15:9; Gal 1:13  He had many Christians killed, tormented, and thrust into prison. Acts 8:3; Acts 9:1,2 His conviction was so strong that he stood by, and watched as his henchmen stoned to death the righteous man Stephen. Acts 7:58,59; Acts 8:1

Yet, who better to illustrate to us what conviction really means. Paul had no compromise when it came to the truth. He said, “Have I therefore become your enemy because I tell you the truth? “ Gal 4:16  He withstood Peter to his face concerning favoritism. Gal 2:11-17 Though ignorance is something God no longer winks at, Paul made it known it was by ignorance that he persecuted the church. Acts 17:30 Even so, Paul knew that Israel had by ignorance had crucified Christ. Despite ignorance, Paul repented of his sins, and was baptized. Acts 9:18 Paul demanded no less out of Israel, and no less out of us today.  Acts 3:13-19

Conclusion: The world thinks Christians are hypocrites when they preach the perfect Word of God because of their imperfection. They claim Christians are sinners, and at one time they were, and are not worthy of preaching to them. Tit 3:3 Yet, who has more compassion and understanding of sinners than those who once were in their shoes.

God could have had angels to preach the gospel, but chose rather to entrust His divine Word to fallible men. Gal 1:8 Paul said, “Has in due time manifested His word through preaching, which was committed to me according to the commandment of God our Savior;” Titus 1:3 And again he said, “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.” 2 Cor 4:7

All have sinned and come short of God’s glory, but if we are willing to repent and turn to God, God is willing to forgive us our sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Rom 3:23; 1 Jn 1:8,9 If God could forgive David’s murder and adultery, and if God forgave Paul’s great persecutions of the church, he can forgive us today. Take it from former sinners, God can forgive you too. How? By our obedience and faithfulness to the gospel of Jesus Christ. 1 Cor 15:1-4; Rom 10:10; Acts 2:38; Rev 2:10

Losers of this World are Winners with Christ

I am often reminded of the losers in life. Historically losers have been scandalized as those unworthy of winning because of apathy or laziness. How many can remember the losers in American presidential races? Most laugh, and mock losers as unproductive people of society. Yet history would disagree with this assessment.

Alfred Landon lost a landslide to Franklin Roosevelt, yet he had a distinguished career thereafter.  He witnessed 8 more presidents including America’s oldest president, Ronald Reagan who helped him celebrate his 100th birthday. Roosevelt died  in office at the age of 63. No one lost a larger landslide election than George McGovern when he lost to Richard Nixon in 1972. He has had many humanitarian awards since losing, and though near death he has lived to be 90 years old. Nixon left office in the scandal of Watergate, and died in obscurity and shame. Though not a politician and hardly a loser, George Burns was always second to his wife Gracie Allen. When she died, George’s career began. In fact, George Burns became a movie star at the age of 79. He went on to live to be 100. Gracie died at the moderate age of 69 of a heart attack. These same trends have been duplicated over and over again throughout history.

What does this all mean? God asked all Christians to be losers. Yes! Losers! Hard to believe? Jesus said, “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? “ Matt 16:24-26

The prophets of the old testament, and the apostles of the new testament sacrificed their lives for a greater cause_to obey God. They were cut off the land of the living in service to God even as we are called today. We are not to love this present life unto the death, that we might obtain something more valuable than long life on earth, that is, eternal life. Rev 12:11

According to mankind Jesus was a loser. His ministry only lasted about 3 years and it ended by him being mocked, beaten, and nailed to a cross. Jesus sacrificed his own life that we might have eternal life. He was taken as a lamb to the slaughter, and yet he never opened his mouth to prevent it. He lost his life, that we might win eternal life.

Brethren are not to prevent religious persecution, yeah rather they are to embrace it even as Christ and not be ashamed of it. 1 Pet 2:21; 1 Pet 4:16 All Christians who live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution (not for wrong doing, but for obeying God). 2 Tim 3:12; 1 Pet 4:15 Notice that not all Christians will suffer persecutions. Only those who abide in Christ, and His doctrine will suffer. This suffering is how one knows who is a faithful Christian, and who is not. Gal 5:11 Those who save their life, and escape persecution will lose their eternal life. Mt 16:25 If we are not willing to lose this life by taking up our cross, and walk in the steps of Jesus, we can’t be a Christian. Lk 14:27

All those who win this life will spend their eternity in hell. In this life they will receive good things, while Christians are suffering evil things. It was true for the fathers and prophets, it as true for the apostles, and it’s true for us today. Lose your life today by your death with Christ by baptism, and take up your cross and follow Christ. Rom 6:3,4 Your soul will thank you eternally!

The Church of Politics

When one attends church in America these days it’s hard to distinguish it between worship to God or worship to a nation. Many denominations are singing “God bless America” as though this is a song meant to praise God. Some pledge allegiance to the flag, even having the flag in their auditoriums. Their preachers proclaim one candidate over the other, and state vehemently that one is going straight to hell if they vote opposite of their political doctrine. Have I described the church you attend?  Is that someone who preaches and believes as such you? What does the bible say about such practices in the Lord’s church?

Singing Spiritual Songs

It’s no wonder that those who add instruments of music into the worship find no problem adding secular songs into the worship as well. Paul instructed the church to teach and admonish with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in the heart to the Lord. Col 3:16; Eph 5:19 Again he said, sing with the Spirit (the Word of God) and with the understanding also. 1 Cor 14:15

No where does the bible teach that we are to sing worldly songs, or songs in praise to a nation or government. Our songs of praise are to God and Christ.

No Other God’s Before Me

The military of a nation salutes a  flag which they say represents their nation. They call it allegiance to the flag. The flag in an inanimate object which neither lives or breathes. When it’s used in worship it becomes an idol. God commanded Israel in the Law of Moses to have no other god before him, of which Jesus also made reference to as well. Ex 20:3; Mt 4:10

Paul said, “What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God.” 2 Cor 6:16 God is a jealous God, and when we place anything before Him as to worship, it is classified as a false god. We can serve our nation, but we are prohibited to serve a flag which neither lives or breathes and is designed with things above (stars). Ex 20:4 God defined such as an idol, and we are prohibited to worship it as it were God.

What Preachers Are Commanded To Preach

All preachers which proceed from God must preach the gospel, and the doctrine of Christ. I speak to those who know the truth, that God spoke of the separation of church and state. Jesus said, “Render unto Caesar the things which belong to Caesar, and to God the things which belong to God.” Lk 20:25

Paul said, all Christians are to obey governing authorities, for they are appointed by God. Not doing so breaks the law of God. Rulers are not a terror of good works, but of evil, and we shouldn’t be afraid of such. Pay your taxes, obey the laws of the land, and honor the king. Rom 13:1-7; 1 Pet 2:17

Preachers must preach against the sin, and attempt to convert sinners. No where are we taught intervene in government to establish what is sin, and what isn’t. One can’t legislate morality. Morality is controlled by ministers of righteousness, and not politicians of wickedness. How can a politician command one not to lie, when they lie? How can a politician command one not to commit adultery, when they are living in adultery. Rom 2:21,22

How can a politician command one not to sin when that sin can’t be prevented by man’s laws. It’s impossible to prevent a woman from having an abortion. Why? Because women will do it themselves, even unto death. One can’t prevent one from being homosexual because one can be homosexual, and practice such in secret. (e.g. Rock Hudson, Raymond Burr, and Eleanor Roosevelt). Some sins are legislated by countries which have proven to be fruitful and some unfruitful. For instance, we have prisons filled with drug dealers and crack addicts, while the federal and local government along with banks are selling drugs themselves. Is it any wonder why illegal drug usage continues amid stiff penalties?

Conclusion: The religion of politics is not the religion of God. It’s a false religion which teaches a false doctrine, and not the doctrine of Christ. Some have the form of sound doctrine which is intermingled with the doctrine of politics (the doctrine of men), which Jesus said, was vain worship. Mt 15:7-9

If true Christians want to stop abortion and homosexuality, they must do it the way God said: Preach the Word of God in and out of season. 2 Tim 4:2-5 We must teach God’s Word to our children from the cradle, and instill it in their hearts and minds. We must preach the Word to all who will give ear to the Word. We can’t force anyone to believe God’s Word nor can we force them to stop sinning. However, we can’t lease out our responsibility to preach the Word to sinners. We can’t join ourselves to a political party which God did not institute, or die in their behalf. Acts 20:28 The church contains the manifold wisdom of God which imparts such knowledge to the world by the means of gospel preachers who are sent out by the churches of Christ into all the world. Eph 3:10 Stop preaching political division, and begin to preach the unity of the gospel of Christ!

The Penalty For Truth

Ever since the beginning of time the penalty for telling the truth is obvious. In today’s society children call truth tellers tattletales, and adults call them whistle blowers. Both names are derogatory and mocked for not keeping the secret of sins of others. A lie sounds so much better and believable than does the truth. This world rewards liars and places them in high esteem. Those in this world are punished for telling, and upholding the truth. Even so, does the truth in the bible carry with it the same penalty?

Ahab and Elijah

Elijah the prophet was considered one of God’s greatest prophets, insomuch that he was carried into heaven on a chariot of fire. 2 Kin 2:11 No man ever stood up for the truth more than Elijah. He was the one who by himself withstood the 450 false prophets of Ahab and Jezebel. Yet, when he confronted Ahab concerning his sins of forsaking God’s commandments, Ahab said to him, “Is this you, you troubler of Israel?.” 1 Kings 18:17 And again he said, “Have you found me, O my enemy?”  1 Kings 21:20 Elijah was a brave and courageous man, yet he realized that speaking the truth of God carried with it grave hazards. He said, “I have been very zealous for the Lord God of hosts; because the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I alone am left; and they seek to take my life.”  1 Kings 19:14

Moses and Korah

God called Moses to lead Israel out of slavery in Egypt, which he did by the power and might of God. He lead them through the Red Sea, and into the wilderness where God fed Israel with manna from heaven. Upon Mt. Sinai God gave Moses the 10 commandments, and the law of Moses. Yet, before Moses could come down from the Mount, Israel was already worshiping a molten calf. Ex 32:4 Now, one might think by doing so much for Israel, and giving them the truth of God right from the hand of God, that Moses would have been revered. Yet the famous and renown men of Israel arose up against Moses to take his leadership away from him. If not for the power of God they might have succeeded in this great evil. Korah and his band of men (250) were swallowed up by the earth by the hand of God. Nu 16

Christ and The Apostles

No one on this earth ever spoke more truth than Jesus Christ. Jesus verily said, “I am the way, the truth and the life.” Jn 14:6 Paul said that the truth is in Jesus. Eph 4:21 The Son of God, God’s gift from heaven, who spoke only what God the Father gave him instruction, who came to bear the sins of the world was hung on the cross between two thieves. This was done unto Jesus in part because He spoke the truth. He said that he was the Son of God. Jn 10:36 He said that he had the power to forgive sins. Mt 9:6 He said that He and God were one, making himself equal with God. Jn 10:30

Jesus said to his disciples, that their Word was truth. Jn 17:17 Paul said on 4 different occasions that he lied not, and even certified that what he had preached and wrote came from God. Rom 9:1; 2 Cor 11:31; Gal 1:20; 1 Tim 2:7; Gal 1:11,12 Yet, the apostles of Jesus Christ were vagabonds for our sakes. They were persecuted, stoned, and killed for preaching and teaching the truth of God. Paul said, “Am I therefore become your enemy because I tell you the truth?” Gal 4:16

Conclusion: When Christians speak the truth today, they can expect no more and no less than what the prophets, Jesus and His apostles received. They were persecuted and killed for speaking the truth, and if we do the same, so will we. Mt 10:24,25 The truth will definitely set us free, but at a great cost to all who handle it. Jn 8:32; 2 Tim 3:12

The difference between mankind is that God rewards those who speak, and uphold the truth: Not here on earth but in the life to come. The gospel of Christ proceeded from the Word, the truth of God. 1 Pet 1:23-25; 1 Thess 2:13 The truth died for us, and the truth will set us free from sin, but only when we obey it. The truth shall judge us all come the day of Judgment. Jn 12:48 Anyone who obeys the gospel of Christ shall receive the promise of eternal life. Tit 1:2  Anyone who rejects the truth shall receive the promise of hell and damnation. 2 Thess 1:7-9 Yes, there is a penalty for preaching the truth, but there is a greater punishment for concealing God’s Holy Word. 1 Cor 9:16; Job 6:10

Use Your Time Well

Time is a precious thing for every creature upon this earth. Precious because it’s limited. What we do with time will determine our future in this life, and especially in the life to come. Solomon wrote that there was a time for everything. He wrote this concerning our carnal life, but how would this apply to our eternal life?  (Eccl 3:1-8)

”To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:”

This verse reminds us that all things come in their proper time. God never calls us when we are not prepared to be obedient to his Gospel. God never called babies, nor does he expect little children to be subject to him. This is why they are subject to their parents. Eph 6:1-4 When the gospel is presented unto us, this will be the accepted time, this will be our day of salvation. 2 Cor 6:2

“A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;”

This verse reminds us that once we have been born again by being buried with Christ by baptism that our day to begin learning and teaching the gospel will begin. The Word is for us to plant and water, but God will give the increase. 1 Cor 3:6

“A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;”

This verse lets us know that we are to kill off the works of the flesh, and to put on the works of righteousness. We must cast off darkness, and put on the whole armor of God. Rom 13:12 We must build up our faith  by adding virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brother kindness, and love. 2 Pet 1:5-7

“A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;”

This verse let us know that we shall suffer much for the cause of Christ. 2 Tim 3:12 We will have to go through fiery persecutions which will try our patients and endurance. 1 Pet 4:12 Yet, once the persecutions are over, we shall rejoice and shout for joy knowing that our reward has come. Ps 32:11

“A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;”

This verse reminds us that we have an eternal life to build; An eternal life built upon the Chief cornerstone which the builders rejected, Jesus Christ. 1 Pet 2:6-8 We must embrace the church which Christ built, and the doctrine which he established while refraining from the doctrines of men. Mt 16:18; 2 Jn 9; Mt 15:7-9

“A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;”

This verse reminds us to obtain the knowledge and wisdom of God, and cast away the wisdom of the world. We must study to show ourselves approved of God, rightly handling the Word of truth. 2 Tim 2:15 We must be prepared to give an answer to anyone and ready to prove all things, contending and defending the Word of truth. 1 Pet 3:15; 1 Thess 5:21; Jude 3: Philip 1:15-18

“A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;”

This verse reminds us the we must reject our own words and begin to speak only the Word (Oracles) of God. 1 Pet 4:11 We must learn when to speak, and when to be silent in the presence of God. 1 Cor 14:33-40 We have to learn when to preach the Word, and when not to preach the Word to those who mock it and reject it. As Jesus said, “Cast not your pearls before swine.” And again he said to any house or city which rejected the Word, “Cast off the dust of your feet.” Mt 7:6; Mt 10:14

“A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.”

This verse reminds us that we must hate the evil, and love the good even as Amos wrote long ago. Amos 5:15 We are in a battle against evil which is warring against our souls. This is why the apostle Paul spoke of the good fight of faith. 1 Tim 6:12 This is why we are to prepare for battle against the trickery of the Devil. Eph 6:11-17 This is why we must fight to the end, enduring temptations that we might obtain our crown of life. Jam 1:12 This is why Paul said he had fought a good fight, and that he had finished his course in life, and that a crown of righteousness awaited him. 2 Tim 4:7,8 Isaiah said that peace belonged only to the righteousness, and not to the wicked. Isa 48:22 A peace which Paul said passed understanding. Philip 4:17

Conclusion: Once we are born into this world our clock has begun. We are made aware of the brevity of life by watching those around us die. James said it was but a vapor which appears for a little time, and then vanishes away. Jam 4:14

In this life, whether we know it or not, we have but one duty to perform, and that is to obey the gospel of Christ. Mk 16:16 If we reject the gospel we are given our consolation: This LIFE, but once we die, Eternal DAMNATION. Lk 6:24; Job 21:7-9; Mk 16:16 If we obey the gospel we must prepare for our eternal life. We have no time to waste in this preparation. We must learn the Word, preach the Word, do good unto all, and endure persecutions. 2 Tim 2:15; 2 Tim 4:2-5; Gal 6:10; 2 Tim 3:12 If we endure until the end, we shall receive our crown of life. Mt 11:22; Mt 24:13 Use your time well because NOW is the ACCEPTED TIME, TODAY is the DAY of SALVATION. 2 Cor 6:2

Are You A Christian Conservative?

The word conservative has been used and misused many time to describe those on the most safest side of the law. It has been used to describe political, social, and religious views. Webster dictionary defines Conservative as such: a : tending or disposed to maintain existing views, conditions, or institutions : traditional b : marked by moderation or caution  c :marked by or relating to traditional norms of taste, elegance, style, or manners

Though political and social conservatives are self defined, the bible defines what a Christian conservative truly is.

Obedience to the Gospel of Christ

No one is more conservative than Jesus Christ. He followed God explicitly, even to the death on the cross. Philip 2:8 Before we can claim to be a conservative, we must follow Christ explicitly even as his apostles did. 1 Cor 11:1 We must be obedient to the gospel of Christ explicitly. We must believe Jesus is the Christ, confess such before men, and repent and be baptized for the remission of sins. Rom 10:10; Acts 2:38 When we are baptized into Christ we put on Christ, and are therefore baptized into his death and raised to walk in the newness of life. Rom 6:3,4 When we are baptized we are baptized into the body of Christ, members in particular. 1 Cor 12:13,27

Abide By The Doctrine of Christ

We can’t fully claim to be one with God and Christ unless we continue in the doctrine of Christ. 2 Jn 9 We can’t have fellowship with God by abiding by the traditions and doctrines of men. 1 Jn 1:1-3; Mt 15:7-9 We must abide by the biblical principle that all servants of God abode. The prophets and fathers of old heard what the Spirit had to say, and wrote and spoke accordingly. 2 Pet 1:21 Christ did only what God instructed him to speak and to do. Jn 12:49,50 The apostles followed only what the Spirit revealed unto them. Jn 16:13; Acts 4:19,20 We must follow exactly what the Spirit reveals to us today, which is contained in the Holy Scriptures. 1 Pet 4:11; 1 Cor 4:6 This in and of itself defines what a true biblical conservative was and is today.

The church was built upon the apostles, and prophets with Jesus being the chief corner stone. Eph 2:20 No one followed God more conservatively than these, and if we are members of Christ’s Body, the church, we also must do as they did: No more and no less. Col 1:18; 1 Cor 4:6; 1 Cor 2:13

Conclusion: Though most religious people think themselves to be conservative, in truth, they actually are liberal. Why? Because they have chosen to be conservative by following man’s ways, and not God’s ways. They have chosen man’s righteousness, and not God’s righteousness. Rom 10:3  The have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. Rom 10:2

Jesus described the strait and narrow path which leads to life everlasting. Mt 7:13,14 Anyone who chooses to travel this road must be as narrow minded in agreement with Christ, and his apostles. 1 Cor 1:11 If we wish to be called a Christian Conservative, we must obey the gospel, abide by the doctrine of Christ, and walk even as our Lord walked, and his apostles walked. 1 Pet 1:21; 1 Cor 12:18 We must walk the walk and talk the talk of the oracles of God. 1 Pet 4:11; Tit 2:1

Christian Bill of Rights

Americans live in what is called the land of the free. We have the freedom to express ourselves in many ways. We have the freedom of the press, freedom of religion, and freedom of speech. However, Christians hold dual citizenship, for we are also the citizens of heaven. Philip 3:20 As such, we don’t have the same rights as do those of a nation like the United States.

Freedom to Commit Adultery

In American it’s not a crime to commit adultery. At one time California tries to ban adultery, but this only lead to more heinous crimes such as murder. Although man has given all the citizens of America the right to commit adultery, God forbade all the citizens of heaven to indulge in such. Rom 13:9

Freedom To Commit Fornication

In America, committing fornication is done with pride. In fact, many have glorified names to call it such as: sowing their wild oats, hanky-panky, passion or a fling. Many even use fornication in lieu of marriage itself (Cohabitation aka shacking-up). However, no matter what name man calls it, God still deems it a sin. 1 Cor 6:1

Freedom To Be Homosexuals and Lesbians

In America, it’s legal to be a homosexual or lesbian, and to commit sodomy as if it were a natural act to perform. Many who live in this condition cohabitate as do those who commit fornication. However, in a few states they have elevated gays and lesbians to be able to be given in marriage like heterosexuals. No matter what estate man elevates homosexuality, God still calls it an abomination, and with God only a man and a woman can legally marry each other under the conditions He established. Mt 5:32; Mt 19:9; 1 Cor 7; Rom 1:26,27,32

Freedom To Have An Abortion

According to most Americans, abortion is a right afforded to all women. I believe they call it a woman’s right to choose. Abortion has been a political issue ever since the Supreme Court legalized it in 1969. Women who desire this right say that it’s their body to do what they choose. However, what they don’t realize is that our bodies don’t belong to us, they belong to God, for we were bought for a price. 1 Cor 6:19,20 God calls the intentional taking of a life, murder, and murder is a sin. Rom 1:29

Freedom Of Speech

In America, there is no right more valuable than the freedom of speech for in this hinges all freedoms. Perhaps that is the reason why so many take liberties where God prohibited. Citizens of America use their opinion with dignity and pride, and some to dishonor and shame. Christians are not afforded such wide range of freedom with God. Christians must be slow to speak, and must have their speech seasoned with salt. Jam 1:19; Col 4:6 Christians must speak the oracles of God, sound doctrine, and are forbidden to add their opinions to God’s Word. 1 Pet 4:11; Tit 2:1; Rev 22:18,19 The world may involve themselves with the affairs of this world such as politics, but Christians are forbidden to do such.  2 Tim 2:4 Americans can defame, and dishonor the president or vice president, but God prohibits Christians to dishonor leaders of a nation. 1 Pet 2:17

Conclusion: The Christian bill of rights differ greatly with man’s bill of rights. Mankind has the right to do whatever they please, but Christians only have the right to obey God. Jn 14:15 We are a chosen generation, a royal nation, a peculiar people. 1 Pet 2:9 Christians are the called out, the chosen, and if they abide in the doctrine of Christ, the faithful. Rev 17:14 The perfect law of liberty frees us from the bondage of the law of Moses, and binds us to the body (the church) of Christ. Jam 1:25; Rom 8:2; 1 Cor 12:13,27 Let us never take liberties with man’s rights, and lose our right to be citizens with Christ in heaven.

God’s Word Is His Bond, Is Yours?

There was a day when one’s word was their bond. If they said it, they stood by it. This however is not true by many today. In fact, they can write it in a contract, and still not want to stand by their own words in a court of law. We see immoral politicians today who will say one thing today, and tomorrow say another. What if God were this way, would you follow him? Would you still place your trust with God if today he said he that believes and is baptized shall be saved, and tomorrow he would say, I’ve changed my mind. Answer: Of course not, for a liar is not to be trusted with the truth. As one old saying goes, “You’ve got to stand for something or you will fall for anything.”

God Keeps His Promises

The apostle Peter said, “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” Joshua wrote, “Not a word failed of any good thing which the Lord had spoken to the house of Israel. All came to pass.” Josh 21:45 Paul said, “Faithful is he that calls you, who also will do it.” 1 Thess 5:24 And again he said, “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.” Heb 10:23 “Faithful is is that calls you who will also do it.” 1 Thess 5:24

It’s imperative to know that God keeps his promises because our eternal life is at stake. Paul said he knew whom he believed, and was persuaded that God was able to keep what he had committed to Him until that Day. 2 Tim 1:12 Abraham was fully persuaded that, what God had promised, He was able also to perform. Rom 4:21 If righteous men of this stature trusted in God, even so we can place our trust in Him.

God Doesn’t Lie

Both the old testament and new testament confirms that our God is not a liar. Why is it imperative to know this? Because as John wrote, “No lie is of the truth.” 1 Jn 2:21 Moses wrote, “God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” Num 23:19

Paul said that by two immutable things, God’s oath and God’s promise, that it was impossible for God to lie. Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast. Heb 6:18,19 Our eternal life which was promised before the world began is validated by the very fact that God cannot  lie. Tit 1:2

God Doesn’t Change

James wrote, that with God there is no variation or shadow of turning. Jam 1:17 Malachi wrote that God doesn’t change. The Hebrew writer said Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. If God and Christ changes not, then this means that the same God who kept his promises then, will keep His promise now and forever. The same God who didn’t lie then, doesn’t lie now, or ever will.

David said of God, “But You are the same, and Your years will have no end.” Ps 102:27 Our God doesn’t change. The same principles he established in Eden are with us today. The same principles he established with Israel are with us today. It wasn’t God who broke his promise in the Garden, it was Adam and Eve. It wasn’t God who broke his covenant with Israel, it was Israel. God always keeps His end of the deal.

Therefore we know that if we keep God’s commandments, God will keep his promise of eternal life. Jn 14:15  If we obey the gospel of Christ, we know God will reward us eternal life. Tit 1:2 After-all, we have his oath and promise that he will keep his Word. Heb 6:16-19 The only question we need to answer is, will we? 2 Cor 6:2; Heb 3:7,8
