Not every marriage that is licensed by mankind is sanctioned by God? If all marriages were legal in the sight of God, then adulterous and gay marriages would be approved of by God. So then, what kind of marriages are approved of by God?
Only marriages which abide by the Word of God are approved of by God (Gen. 2:24). “What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder” (Matt. 19:6). God does not join two homosexuals or two lesbians in marriage. Such a marriage may be sanctioned by mankind but never by God’s approbation. There is no true “marriage bond” joining them together in the sight of God.
Jesus and his apostles condemned adulterous marriages. The Lord, who ordained marriage and who joins man and woman in marriage said, “Whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causes her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced commits adultery,” and, “Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, commits adultery: and whoso marries her which is put away commits adultery” (Mt. 5:32 f; 19:9). “For the woman which has a husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he lives; but if the husband is dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. So then if, while her husband lives, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband is dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she is married to another man” (Rom 7:2,3). “The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband lives; but if her husband is dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord” (1 Cor 7:39). The only exception for a man to divorce and remarry is for his wife to commit fornication, and that be the cause for the divorce. The only exception for a woman to remarry is for her husband to be physically dead. God plainly hates divorce (Mal 2:16). All who go ahead and divorce and remarry contrary to biblical reasons have committed adultery, and their marriage is not sanctioned by God.
When people marry contrary to God’s law, God recognizes it as sin and rebellion against Him. Such people go to the bed of impurity (Heb. 13:4). Such a relationship is unscriptural, unauthorized, impure, immoral, and an abomination in God’s sight!
The same objections stand against polygamous marriages, according to plain statements of God’s law in the New Testament. Jesus said, “Let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband” (1 Cor. 7:2). God did not say, “Let every man have his own wives, and let every woman have her own husbands.”
There is no “sanctity” to homosexual, polygamous, or other adulterous relationships, even when they are put under the honor of “marriage.” To attempt to give them the aura of “sanctity” is rebellion against the authority of God. Bottom line is this, only God can validate and sanctify marriage, for He is the one who gave it and not mankind who desires to pervert it!
