As I was watering my flowers today in the cool of the day, two small boys approached me pleading I spray water on them to cool them off. Having obliged and them laughing with delight on their way home, it occurred to me how many people today are in hell right now who would delight in just one drop of water (Lk 16:24). Even so, many today are headed for hell very soon, though they are living a life of luxury and fame here on earth. Is that someone you? If so, the Lord Jesus Christ has what you need to avert such a disaster.
Do you believe what Jesus said in the bible is true? If you do, then you believe that few will obtain eternal life in heaven. Notice the words of Jesus, “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it: (Matt 7:13-14). Jesus made it very plain to understand. Many will be in hell and few will be in heaven.
This being so, what did Jesus say must do to be pleasing to God in order to obtain a crown of life? Notice his words carefully: “Not everyone who says to Me,’Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness” (Matt 7:21-23)! Once again, Jesus made it very clear when he said many will claim to have done many wonderful works, but still won’t be accepted. They will hear the words, “I never knew you, depart from me”. In order to enter into heaven, one must “Do the will of God”. As John also said, “And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever” (1 Jn 2:17).
What is the will of God? It was the will of God that Jesus die on the cross and give his life for the world (Jn 3:16). It was the will of God that the gospel (death, burial, and resurrection of Christ_1 Cor 15:1-4), be preached unto all the world (Mt 28:18-20). How does one obey the gospel of Christ? Jesus said, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned” (Mark 16:15,16) More specifically, Paul made it clear that one must confess what he believes in order to be saved. “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Rom 10:9-10).
Taken in their proper order, one must first hear the gospel preached, for faith comes by hearing the word of God (Rom 10:17). If one believes the gospel in their heart, they then must confess their believe before men (Matt 10:32,33). Having done this, one must repent and be baptized for the remission of sins (Acts 2:3738). Upon doing these few steps, the Lord adds you to His Church, the church of Christ (Acts 2:47 f; Mt 16:18; Rom 16:16).
The only thing remaining is your faithfulness to the doctrine of Christ and his apostles unto death (Acts 2:42 f; 2 Jn 9). Then and only then will one obtain a crown of life (Rev 2:10). That’s it! And yet, as simple as this is, few will ever do the Will of God. Many will be called, but few will be chosen (Matt 22:14). A few will believe and be baptized, but even fewer will remain faithful unto death.
God has made an offer to man that he can’t afford to refuse. Obey the gospel and continue in this doctrine and live, or reject it and be cast into the lake of fire. Paul warned, “And to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power” (2 Thess 1:7-9). “And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely” (Rev 22:17).
