There are countless multitudes in the world who never read the Bible. Churches are made up of people who claim to follow the Bible as a guide, but who never bother to arouse the dust on the cover to open it. We hear it stated that the Bible tops the best seller lists (and this is good) but, I am afraid there are more Bibles sold than are read and studied! Christian, are you guilty also?
It’s nice to have a brand new bible, but a used one is so much better. Show me a worn out bible and I will show you a person searching diligently for salvation. So many wait for the movie instead of reading the book for themselves. Way too many put their soul at risk by following what their preacher says, their parents say, or what their spouse says. This is why there is so much confusion in the religious world, and why there are so many people believing so many different doctrines. This is why so many are apathetic when it comes to speaking where the bible speaks and being silent where the bible is silent (1 Cot 4:6 f; 1 Pet 4:11).
The person that will not study the Bible is a person destined to lose their soul. Hell will be filled with those claiming to be Christians, because they never studied the bible for themselves. If we could just fully comprehend that the Word of God will be the standard by which we will be judged in the last day (Jn. 12:48). Be not deceived into thinking you can plead ignorance (Acts 17:30).
Do not trust the salvation of your soul to a “hit-and-miss” kind of knowledge of what God will have you to do. Stand on your own two feet, and study your Bible diligently and you can stand approved before God (2 Tim. 2:15). The Word is the truth and the truth is the gospel (Eph 1:13 f; Jn. 17:17). It can make you free if you know it and continue in it (Jn. 8:31, 32). But, you must have the initiative to seek it (Jer 29:13 f; Mt 6:33) and search it (Jn. 5:39 f; Acts 17:11) in order to find it (Matt 7:7).
A home is not a home without a bible. Even if your home has a bible, it is totally worthless if it goes unread (1 Tim 4:13), never studied (Ps 1:2), and never obeyed (Matt 7:21). A bible loses its purpose if it is not used to teach (2 Tim 2:2), to preach (2 Tim 4:2-5), to prove (1 Thess 5:21), to defend (Philip 1:15-18), and to contend for the faith (Jude 3). So, does your home have a bible? If not, get one! It will be the best investment your soul ever made. Then, use it or lose it (your soul)!
