Is there blood on your hands? Ezekiel tells us, “Son of Man, Speak unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me. When I say unto the wicked, You shall surely die; and you give him not warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at your hand” (Ezek 3:17-18).
The Apostle Paul could say, “Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men (Acts 20:26).” Paul was making reference to Ezekiel 3:17-19. Why could Paul say that he was pure from the blood of all men? Notice the answer in Acts 20:20-21, “And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have showed you, and have taught you publicly, and from house to house, testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.” The Apostle Paul went from house to house and told people about the Lord Jesus Christ. Paul says in Acts 20:27, “For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.” Paul did not shun his responsibility; therefore, Paul could say, “I am pure from the blood of all men” (Acts 20:26).
“He that wins souls is wise” (Proverbs 11:30). What did Paul instructed a young Timothy? “And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also” (2 Tim 2:2-3). Paul commanded him to “Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry” (2 Tim 4:2-5).
What responsibility do we have to the lost person? James said, “Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins” (Jam 5:19-20). Is there a penalty if we do not tell them the gospel and doctrine of Christ? Yes, there blood is on your hands!
Jesus said, “If you continue in my word then are you my disciples indeed (Jn 8:31). Disciples were called Christians first in Antioch (Acts 11:26). He commanded his disciples in Mark 16:15,16 to, “Go into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believes and is baptized shall be saved; He that believes not shall be condemned”. Faithful Christians continue in the doctrine Of Christ and his apostles. “Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son” (2 John 9 f; Acts 2:42). We are free from the blood of all men once the gospel has been preached unto them (Acts 20:26,27). This is true if they obey the gospel and it is true if they reject it. Remember the words from Ezekiel: “Yet, if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul” (Ezek 3:19).
