Why is it that people find it so difficult and such a hardship to abide by the will of Almighty God? It might come down to the sin of pride. (Mk 7:22) Much too often man thinks he knows better than God. This they believe despite what Paul wrote to the churches: “For who has known the mind of the Lord? or who has been his counselor (Rom 11:34)?
Some really believe that, if they could only get their own way, do as they please, everything would be so much better. That is why multitudes of people would really rather pray: “Thy will be changed”. . . rather than, “Thy will be done.”
While there is pride and self-will in one’s heart he cannot pray this petition, for the simple reason that he does not desire to say it. Whether admitted or not, many people would much prefer their own way, and they believe their own way is far superior to God’s revealed way. But learn and never forget: “Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world . . . the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men . . . no flesh should glory before God . . . He that glories, let him glory in the Lord.” (1 Cor. 1:20, 25, 29, 31). It is only when we say to God “Thy will be done” will we hear Him say when we are judged, “Well Done, thy good and faithful servant” (Mt 25:21,23)! “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up” (Jam 4:10).
