What is the last thing you want to hear in life? Well, that all depends upon the person. Some don’t want to hear that they or a loved one has cancer. Some don’t want to hear that they have AIDS or some other incurable disease. Some don’t want to hear that their spouse or child has met foul play. I don’t know of anyone who would want to hear such tragic news. Truly, mankind lives in fear of many things, but few fear what is guaranteed to every man: Death and Judgment.
Death is not the end of all things. Our bodies will die, but our souls will live on. Every human being will die, for it is appointed to every man once to die, but after this the judgment (Heb 9:27). Also, every person will stand before God and be judged of every deed, every word, every thought, every evil imagination, and every intent of the heart (2 Cor 5:10.11). God shall judge man by His Word, according to the gospel and doctrine of Christ and His apostles (Jn 12:48 ff; Rom 2:16; Heb 4:12).
Now, let me ask you this: Are you sure of your destination? Are you sure you are right with God? I ask this of you for one reason, because if you have not obeyed the gospel of Christ, you are going hear some horrible news. If you have obeyed the gospel, but haven’t continued in the doctrine of Christ, you are going to be weeping and gnashing your teeth. If you don’t remain faithful unto death, you are going to hear words from the Almighty which will make you shake to the core of your soul. What is the worst news a person can ever hear and should be in fear of every day of their present life? Jesus said, “I never knew you: depart from me, you that work iniquity” (Mt 7:23). “Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, you cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels (Mt 25:41).
Stop worrying about things which can kill your body, and start fearing the One who can kill both soul and body in hell for an eternity (Mt 10:28). There is a great day coming my beloved brethren, and for the saints it will not be too soon, for contained therein is your reward. However, if you have resisted the truth and failed to obey what God requires for salvation, you have much to fear, and it’s just a breath away (2 Thess 1:7-9).
