I suppose most have heard the current news of A federal judge Thursday ordering a Rowan County, Kentucky, clerk Kim Davis to jail for refusing to heed a U.S. Supreme Court order legalizing same-sex marriage, and she will stay there until she complies with the ruling. Now, before you applaud her actions consider this: What store clerk refuses to sell tobacco knowing it will cause cancer, heart disease and C.O.P.D.? What retailer refuses to sell alcohol knowing it will cause drunkenness which destroys the liver and can lead to traffic fatalities? And back to Kim Davis, she is willing to give a marriage license to heterosexuals who are not biblically eligible to be married, but draws the line on homosexuals and lesbians? Noteworthy, Ms Davis has been married a total of 4 times, divorced three times, and currently lives in the state of adultery. She also has had two children out of wedlock. Perhaps the most unlikely person to be pointing out the errors of anyone. Rom 2:21,22
Now, I am totally against immorality, but if we can’t legislate adultery, what makes us think we can legislate gay marriage? It’s like abortion, many want to make it illegal to have one. What they fail to remember is that abortion was illegal up until 1969 when the Supreme Court overturned the prohibition in the case of Roe vs Wade. Abortions has long been a part of American culture for many, many years, legal or illegal. When it was illegal, there was always ways to get an abortion if you wanted one. In my family, I had a great aunt in 1926 who had an abortion. Evidently, it was common place even when it was illegal. Yes, America once made it illegal for any couple to cohabitate unmarried. In some states it was illegal to commit adultery. In some places today one can’t buy liquor. In some places one can’t gamble. However, in all places, even if something is illegal there is always some place that makes it legal.
The bottom line is this, there is a way to eliminate all of these sins of humanity, but it is not in our government. Only the gospel of Christ can make one free from sin. Jn 8:31,32 If we want to stop adultery, fornication, homosexuality, abortion, etc., we need to be preaching Jesus and not government. Man in incapable of freeing society from sin. Only the blood of Jesus can wipe away all sin. 1 Pet 1:18-20 Sadly, the church has lost faith in Jesus and has turned to the political arena for the solutions of society.
Take heed all who think the best way to eradicate sin is by man’s laws and not by God’s laws. The best way to eliminate gay marriage is to preach to gays the word of God. Because, no matter if we make gay marriage illegal, and being gay a crime, one way or another they will find a way to commit their sin. If God’s laws can’t change a man, then nothing can!E
