It must have been of great concern for John the baptist to see so many running to him in search of salvation. Thus he said, “ But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come” (Mt 3:7)? I also am amazed of the great number of people in search of the truth. One third of the population of the planet believe Jesus to be the Christ the Son of God. Yet, so many of these will be doomed in hell because they reject the gospel of Christ which Jesus commanded to be preached unto all the world (Mk 16:15,16). This was accomplished in the apostle’s time (Col 1:23). Others will be condemned because they reject the doctrine of Christ and his apostles (Acts 2:42 f; 2 Jn 9).
It does matter who has taught you and what they have taught you about the Word of truth. Many false teachers are in the world (1 Jn 4:1) and they make their converts twice more the child of hell than themselves. If the Catholics have warned you, they will acclaim that infant baptism (i.e. sprinkling or christening) will save your soul. This can’t be true because no one in the new testament was allowed baptism without belief. Something that babies are incapable of.
If the Baptist have warned you, they will acclaim that ‘faith only’ will save your soul. This can’t be true because faith without works is dead (Jam 2:19,29) and God is not a God of the dead (Mt 22:32). Salvation requires faith from the heart (Jn 8:24), confession of your faith from the mouth (Rom 10:10), a repentant heart (Acts 17:30) plus baptism (Acts 22:16).
If the Mormons or Adventist have warned you, they will acclaim salvation needs more than the gospel of Christ. Like the Catholics, the Mormons have added their own bible to God’s Word which is in strict violation of God’s prohibition to add to or take from God’s Word (Rev 22:18,19 f; 1 Cor 4:6). Both the Mormons and Adventist claim to have prophets who have added to God’s Word.
It does matter who is teaching you. If the liberal churches of Christ are teaching you, they will acclaim that not all scriptures emanated straight from God, word for word (2 Tim 3:16,17). They will tell you following God’s Word exactly is nothing more that hypocritical. They have another word for this, they call it “legalism”. The disciples of Christ were told to do as the Pharisees commanded, but don’t do as they do, for they say and do not (Mt 23:3). Liberal churches of Christ neither say or do. Once again, as with denomination who also teach this doctrine, their converts are twice more the child of hell than themselves (Mt 23:15).
I hope the one who has taught you the Word of God or is presently teaching you is following God’s Word exactly. I hope they know that the law of Moses is not to be obeyed but is for our learning (Rom 15:4). I hope they teach you the gospel of Christ exactly as did the apostles unto all the world (Gal 1:6-9). I hope they teach you to worship God in spirit and in truth (Jn 4:23,24). I hope they don’t go beyond that which was written (1 Cor 4:6). I hope they instruct you to continue in the apostolic doctrine (Acts 2:42), the doctrine of Christ (2 Jn 9) which also is the doctrine of God (Jn 7:16,17). I hope that they warn you that you will be persecuted and tried and if you are triumph, you will receive a crown of life (Jam 1:12). Who has warned you to fee from the wrath to come? Believe me, it does make a difference!
