We have all heard the old saying, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Actually, this old saying is quite true. If one eats a balanced diet, exercises and abstains from dangerous activities, there is a great likelihood they will prevent their early demise. If one brushes and flosses their teeth regularly, abstains from too many sugary foods, and visits the dentist regularly, they most often will keep their teeth all of their life. If people wash their hands often and stay away from close contact in cold and flu season they can prevent getting ill. In this life, we have many preventions for the dangers which beset us so often as a society. The same applies to our eternal soul.
If one will believe and confess that Jesus is the Christ (Rom 10:8-10); If one will repent and be baptized for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38); If one will remain faithful unto death (Rev 2:10), they will hide a multitude of sorrows come the day of judgment (Jam 5:20). However, if one neglects their soul by rejecting the gospel and doctrine of Christ and his apostles, they will have to suffer in a lake of fire which burns forever and ever (2 Thess 1:8.9). Truly, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, when the prevention is the gospel and the cure is hell and damnation.
