What must one do in order to be saved? It is the only question you must answer if you intend to be saved come the day of judgment. The answer is a very simple one. What one must do to be saved is the same thing one must do to remain saved.
First of all, what is the gospel of Christ? The apostle Paul preached the gospel of Christ and he said that it was the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ (1 Cor 15:1-4). If one believes this fact and confesses such before men, they are on their way to being saved (Rom 10:8-10). However, they are not saved yet. Secondly, one must repent of their sins and have them washed away by baptism (Acts 2:38 ff; Acts 17:30; Acts 22:16). Having accomplished this, one is added to the Lord’s church by Jesus Christ (Acts 2:47). Last, but not least, one must remain faithful unto death (Rev 2:10). This means that one must continue in the apostle’s doctrine, which is the doctrine of Christ, which is the doctrine of God (Acts 2:42 ff; 2 Jn 9; Jn 7:16,17).
I won’t sugar coat what it takes to become a Christian just to make you a Christian. It is an easy thing to become a Christian, but very difficult to remain a Christian. If you remain a faithful Christian you will be persecuted for the cause of Christ (2 Tim 3:12). People will hate you for contending and defending and teaching God’s Word. But remember this, they hated Jesus before they will hate you. We are not above our Master (Jn 15:18). If you love yourself, don’t delay in becoming a Christian because no one will be saved unless they have obeyed the gospel of Christ. All who do not obey the gospel will be punished forever in hell (2 Thess 1:8,9). Now if that’s not an incentive to obey the gospel, then nothing would be!
