You have read the slogan: “Life is fragile, handle with prayer.” Yet, how can you handle your life with prayer when you haven’t obeyed the will of God? The answer is, you can’t!
Yes, anyone can pray, but it still takes God to hear and answer your prayer. Does God answer a sinner’s prayer? The bible teaches us that God hears not sinners, but if anyone be a worshiper of God, and does His Will, him he hears (Jn 9:31). The bible teaches us that the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil (1 Peter 3:12). The bible teaches us that anyone who turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination (Prov 28:9). The bible teaches us that if Christians ask anything according to His will, He hears us (1 John 5:13,14)
Before his conversion, Saul, who became the apostle Paul, was commanded by Ananias to “arise, and be baptized, and wash away his sins, calling on the name of the Lord” (Acts 22:16). He had seen Christ (Acts 9:3-6 f; I Cor. 15:8), but that wasn’t enough to save him. He then went into Damascus where he was told what he “must do” by Ananias (Acts 9:6, 17-18). Thus far, Paul believed that Jesus is the Son of God, and had spent three days and nights in repentance (Acts 9:9), but this was not enough to save him. Finally, he was told not to wait any longer, but arise and be baptized in order to wash away his sins. In so doing, he was allowed to call on the name of the Lord (Acts 22:16).
When we pray to God we are calling on the name of the Lord. We can’t have this right until we first obey the gospel of Christ. Only Christians have a petition of prayer to call upon God for assistance, for help, for forgiveness of sins. It’s never a question if God can hear a sinner’s prayer, but rather will he. Isaiah stated that its our sins that preclude God from hearing our prayers. He said, “Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; nor His ear heavy, that it cannot hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear” (Isa 59:1-2) There is but one way to remove our sins and that is by obeying the gospel (Acts 2:38).
No one comes to Christ until they have obeyed the gospel of Christ; For all who obey not the Will of God, Christ never knew them (Mt 7:21-23) If he never knew them, then how is it possible he ever heard their prayers? That’s right, it would be impossible! God hears only the prayers of the Saints, and never hears the prayers of sinners. We have his Word on it! (Jn 9:31 ff; 1 Pet 3:12; 1 Jn 5:14) Life truly is fragile, handle by obeying the gospel of Christ!
