Why should all Christians stay far away from politics? Basically, politicians are professional liars. The father of all liars is the Devil (Jn 8:44). Secondly, the platform of both political parties in the United States go contrary to God’s Word. It is not in the best interest of either party to keep their campaign promises. If the Democrat eradicate poverty, then they lose one of their major platforms. If the Republicans end abortion, then they will lose one of their major platforms. Nevertheless, let us focus on how both political parties break God’s law.
Democrats Encourage Immorality
I don’t know of a political party worldwide which is more decadent than the Democratic Party. They increase the rights of Americans to perform and have abortions. They have made it legal for homosexuals and lesbians to be married. They have promoted gay and lesbian rights in every facet in life and even to high positions in government. In short, they have flown in the face of God Almighty and took sides with such nations as Sodom and Gomorrah, Rome and Babylon. “…turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly” (2 Pe 2:6). “Who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due…. who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them” (Rom 1:25-27,32).
Republicans Favor The Rich
I don’t know of a more greedy party worldwide than the Republican Party. They stand against assisting the poor in every possible and devious way. They are against a minimum wage. They are against social security for the elderly. They are against food stamps to assist feeding the impoverished. They are against welfare for the poor. They are against the affordable health care program, which gives health insurance to those who beforehand could not afford to have any. “Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you! Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten. Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have heaped up treasure in the last days. Indeed the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth. You have lived on the earth in pleasure and luxury; you have fattened your hearts as in a day of slaughter” (Jam 5:1-4). “Listen, my beloved brethren: Has God not chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him? But you have dishonored the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you and drag you into the courts” (Jam 2:5,6)?
Conclusion: Politics have strange bedfellows. Of course, when you sleep with dogs you are bound to get fleas. Basically, anyone who sides with either political party do so for economic reasons. The poor will side with the Democrats in order to get welfare program benefits. The affluent will side with the Republicans in order to get corporate welfare benefits. Faithful Christians should never engage with the wickedness of the world. “ You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier” (2 Tim 2:3,4). Christians are buried with Christ by baptism and raise to walk in the newness of life (Rom 6:3,4). “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God” (Col 3:1-3).
The institution which Christ died for and is the head thereof, the church, is the only institution which makes known the manifold wisdom of God to the world (Eph 3:10). It is the pillar and ground of the truth (1 Tim 3:15). Politics is the institution of liars and thieves. In other words, stop doing the works of the world and start doing the works of God!
