So you think you are in control of your life. Think again! If I have heard it once, I have heard it a thousand times, “I earned everything I have ever made” or “I do things my way”. Truth is, man thinks he is in control of everything he does on planet earth. Truth is, man is absolutely wrong! Man is in control of only a few things here on this planet and the rest belongs to God who gave it.
God Controls The World
Everything in nature is controlled by God. In nature, God is in full control. Man cannot make the wind blow or the sun to rise. God makes the flowers bloom and the crops to grow. As Paul said in reference to teaching God’s Word, but equally could be applied to a farmer, “I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase.” 1 Cor 3:6 No matter who we are in the world, the rain falls on everyone, the just and the unjust. Mt 5:45 Yet, we know if things be in God’s will, He can change the elements for his own purpose. Jesus proved this when he controlled the wind and the sea. Mt 8:27 As Job said, God reserves the snow and hail for the day of battle and war. Job 38:22,23 Thus, God is in complete control of nature and it’s elements.
God Controls Life and Death
It was God who breathed into man and made him a living soul. Job wrote that God gives life and God takes away life, blessed be the name of the Lord. Job 1:21 Our mothers give us birth, but it is God who gives us our spirit which makes us live and move and have our being, and this same said spirit returns back to God who gave it once our body dies. Acts 17:28 f; Eccl 12:7 Ask any surgeon and they will tell you that they cannot heal anyone. All they can do is perform a surgical need, but it is God who heals a person and restores a person back to health.
God Controls Government
God controls government and places in control whom he chooses according to his will. Rom 13 No government exists that God does not permit. Dan 2:21, 4:17 Government tried to stop the teaching of Jesus, but this was against God’s Will. Acts 4:21-31 Ancient Roman made war on God’s people, but God overcomes it. Rev 17:12-14 God does just as He intends. He manipulates events and people, even events far away to accomplish His will. Isa 46:9-11 Everyone must recognize that they are accountable to a higher standard and a higher power and that higher standard and power is God. All power belongs to God! Ps 62:11 f; Mt 28:18
God Controls The Church
It was God who gave his only Son. Jn 3:16 It was Christ who came to earth and died for our sins and purchased the church with his own blood. 1 Cor 15:3,4 f; Acts 20:28 Jesus is the head of the church. Eph 1:22,23 f; Col 1:18 Entrance into the church only comes by our obedience to the gospel of Christ. 1 Cor 12:13,27 It is Christ who gave the church laws for which to abide. 2 Jn 9 Qualified elders are selected to guide the flock, but have no authority to change or alter the law of Christ. Tit 1:5-9 f; Heb 13:7,17 Anyone who is not a member of the body of Christ is lost. 2 Thess 1:8,9 Anyone who changes the gospel or doctrine of Christ has not God and shall be accursed. Gal 1:6-9
Conclusion: In all things that pertain to life and to godliness, God is in control. The only thing man is in control of is his decision to either obey or reject the gospel and doctrine of Christ. Based upon this decision, mankind is given their lot in life. If we reject the gospel, we are rewarded the world. If we obey the gospel and continue in the doctrine of Christ and his apostles, then are we tried and suffer for the cause of Christ. Gal 5:11 In the end of all things, man dies and is judged by God through Christ according to the gospel taught by the apostles. Rom 2:16 Only God has the power to destroy both soul and body in hell. Mt 10:28 Who is in control? Only God!
