I have heard the churches of Christ teach a few doctrines that are foreign to the doctrine of Christ over the years. It only goes to prove that we are added to Lord’s church, but we are saved by how we conduct ourselves thereafter. We do not have to follow false doctrine just because most have gone astray. The only leaders we are to follow is Jesus and his apostles. Hopefully, the elders which we appoint are following them too.
Let us not follow any who teach that instrumental music is condoned by Christ. Eph 5:19 Let us not follow any who teach that adultery has more than one exception. Mt 19:9 Let us not follow any who teach that we can eat in the church when the scriptures forbid it. 1 Cor 11:34 Let us not follow any who teach that the work of the church can be done by man made institutions. Eph 4:11,12 Let us not follow any who teach that all scripture were not inspired totally by God the Father. 2 Tim 3:16,17 Let us not follow any who alters the Word of God. 1 Cor 4:6 Let us not follow any who refuse to worship God in Spirit and in truth. Jn 4:23,24 Let us not follow any who refuse to speak the whole oracles of God. 1 Pet 4:11 Let us not follow any who teach the doctrines of men. Mt 15:7-9 Let us not follow any who teach that women can be preachers and teachers, and elders and deacons in the church. 1 Cor 14:33-40 f; 1 Tim 2:11-14
Is the church you attend a reflection of man’s doctrine or the doctrine of Christ? If not the latter, then the biggest question you will have to answer, is the church you attend a reflection of your beliefs? There is no gallantry in perishing with the masses, for many shall be called and only a few chosen. Mt 22:14 Many believe in the Lord, but only a few do his will. Mt 7:21-23 Thus, many will be lost. Don’t let this be you. Stand up for the truth and obey the one and only gospel of Christ and continue in the apostle’s doctrine, even unto the end. Room 10:10 ff; Acts 2:38; Acts 2:42; Rev 2:10 Depart from any church which doesn’t profess such, and worship God according to His Word. Remember, it’s your soul, and it shall be your punishment in hell if God finds you wanting. Let the church which you attend reflect what you believe in, and let what you believe in reflect the gospel and doctrine of Christ.
