Speaking where the bible speaks, and silent where the bible is silent.

If You Can Remember

Biblical Proof

There are many things that signify that we are getting old in this world. For instance, if you were alive when Kennedy was assassinated, you are getting already old. If you can remember Martin Luther King’s ‘I have a dream speech’, you are getting old. If you can remember Nixon leaving office because of the ‘Watergate scandal’, you are getting old.

If you can remember when hitch hiking was common place, you are getting old. If you can remember when people used to leave their front door unlocked, you are getting old. If can remember when  joint used to mean  disreputable place of entertainment, you are getting old. If you can remember when 45’s and 8 tracks were music formats, you are getting old. If you can remember when computers were more science fiction than reality, you are getting old. If you can remember when when one added and subtracted with their fingers and not calculators, you are getting old.

If you can remember when gay used to mean happy, you are getting old. If you can remember when gays were in the closet, and had no intention of coming out, you are getting old. If you can remember when abortion was against the law, you are getting old. If you can remember when it was illegal to live together outside of marriage, you are getting old. If you remember when being a homemaker was commonplace and a place of honor, you are getting old. If you can remember when a divorcee was scandalized, you are getting old. If you can remember when players were called whoremongers and call girls were called prostitutes, you are getting old.

When it comes to God’s Word, our age is also reflected. If you can remember when most members of the Lord’s church could prove their faith by book, chapter and verse, you are getting old. If you can remember when “Speaking where the bible spoke and remaining silent where the bible was silent’ was the foundation of the Lord’s doctrine, then you are getting old. If you can remember when only the denominations used the phrase, “Legalist’, then you are getting old. If you can remember when every church of Christ all believed the same, then you are getting old. If you can remember when politics was never preached in the churches, then you are getting old.

When it comes to being a Christian, being old is not a bad thing. In fact, the older we are in the faith, seasoned in the Lord’s Word, we are a force to be reckoned with. Actually, it hasn’t been that long when the churches of Christ were a reflection of the new testament church in every respect. Slowly, the church has drifted away from the principles which once solidified us with Jesus and his apostles. Adultery has engulfed most local churches and destroyed every good work. Just like the seven churches of Asia, most have come up wanting. They have stopped taking God’s Word for the truth and has turned rather to commentaries and lexicons. They have stopped preaching the unadulterated truth of God and turned to the doctrines of men. It’s time to get back to the old paths and good ways and reject denominational doctrines. It’s time for all the churches to get back book, chapter and verse and stop changing God’s Word. It’s time to get back to the basics of the gospel and doctrine of Christ. It’s time to worship God in Spirit and in Truth.
