Hypocrisy means: “The practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one’s own behavior does not conform; pretense.” It is what Jesus called the Pharisees. They said and did not. Mt 23 There is a growing consensus that there is a righteous political party in the United States, i.e., the Republican party, and a wicked political party, i.e., the Democratic party. Dealing from the point of view of this consensus, anyone who votes Democratic are destined straight to hell. Seriously, this what is being preached in pulpits and taught openly on the internet. Perhaps you have heard this kind of view. Perhaps you share this view, but before you condemn your own self, consider this:
Yes, the Democratic party stands for some very wicked things. Things like pro abortion and gay rights to name a few. Some Republicans say, that anyone who encourages, participates or promotes such things are as guilty as those who do them. Are they right? The bible confirms as much in Romans chapter 1. “And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.” Rom 1:28-32 I guess you can see by now that I am not a Democrat. Now, before you say amen, consider the other side of the coin.
The Republican party does not hide the fact that they defend the wealthy of this country. They are rightfully so, the party of the greedy. This is why the Republican party is always against raising the minimum wage for those who need it the most, the poor. They have always been against social security and medicare. Today, they are against the affordable care act, or what has been nicknamed, Obama Care. This they stand against while cutting the tax burden of the most wealthy and affluent this country has to offer. Since the time of Ronald Reagan, they have given enormous tax breaks to the rich. They even nicknamed it “Trickle down economics” or what Democrats coined, “Reganomics” I guess by now you have surmised that I am not a Republican as well. What I am is a Christian who stands up for the truth of God, and that without hypocrisy.
Greed, my brethren, is also a deadly sin. (Eph 4:19 ff; 1 Tim 3:3; 1 Tim 6:9; Jude 11; Jam 5:1-5 ; Prov 23:4) It is as deadly and an abomination as is immorality. In fact, God not only destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah for their immorality, but also for their greed. “Look, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: She and her daughter had pride, fullness of food, and abundance of idleness; neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.” Ezek 16:49
It was Paul who wrote, “Therefore you are inexcusable, O man, whoever you are who judge, for in whatever you judge another you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things.” Rom 2:1 “You, therefore, who teach another, do you not teach yourself? You who preach that a man should not steal, do you steal? You who say, “Do not commit adultery,” do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? Rom 2:21-22 Yes, the Democratic party stands for sinful and abominable acts. Yes, the Republican party stands for the rich and the greedy. Sin is sin no matter the size. Sin is sin no matter who commits it. 1 Jn 3:4 If sin is your criteria, then arguably, those who condemn Democrats have also by being Republicans condemned themselves.
Let us not be like sinners who claim that one sin is better than another. Any sin can take one to hell. Until there is a political party which can claim no sin, then and only then should they have the right to cast the first stone. Don’t be politicians brethren, but rather be Christians!
