Adam and Eve made one mistake. They disobeyed God and ate the forbidden fruit. Because of this one disobedience, they both were cast out of Eden. Adab and Abihu made one mistake. They disobeyed God when they offered up a strange fire. Because of this one disobedience, God struck them dead. Uzzah made one mistake. He disobeyed God when he touched the ark of the covenant. Because of this one disobedience, God struck him dead. Ananias and Sapphira made one mistake. They disobeyed God when they agreed to lie to God concerning the sell of a piece of land they had pledged to the church. Because of this one disobedience, God struck them both dead.
In order to understand God is to understand the number ‘one’. God gave man one life to live, one death to endure, and one judgment to face. Heb 9:27 He gave to mankind his one Son to die for the sins of man. Jn 3:16 Jesus died and was resurrected from the dead, once. He died for his one church which he is the head thereof. Col 1:18 To gain entrance to the Lord’s church one must obey the one and only gospel commanded by Jesus to be preached unto all the world. Mt 28:19,20 Contained therein is one faith and one baptism. Eph 4:5 As Jesus clearly said, “He that believes and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believes not shall be condemned.” Mk 16:16 Such was the conversion the Ethiopian Eunuch. Upon hearing the gospel preached, he requested baptism. Philip said, you may if you believe that Jesus is the Christ. Upon the Eunuch’s confession Philip baptized him. Acts 8:35-39 All who obey another gospel shall be condemned. 2 Thess 1:7-9 All who teach another gospel shall be accursed. Gal 1:6-9
In this one life we live we have one decision to make. We can either obey the gospel and be saved or we can reject the gospel and be condemned. Just like Adam and Eve, Adab and Abihu, Uzzah, and Ananias and Sapphira, all made one mistake and paid the price for it. Imagine if one makes the mistake of rejecting the gift of the only begotten Son of God. The Hebrew writer paints a horrible picture when answering this scenario. He said, “Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongs unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” Heb 10:29-31 Needless to say, no one can make the decision to obey the gospel for you. However, it’s your one and only chance to gain eternal life. Choose wisely!
