Speaking where the bible speaks, and silent where the bible is silent.

Biblical Proof

I have no animosity for any person because they are a member of the Baptist denomination. I know some very fine people who are Baptists. I am intensely interested in their eternal welfare. I believe that many of them are honest in their convictions, but they have been misled to believe things that are diametrically opposed to the plain teaching of God’s word. Our purpose in setting forth the things herein is to try to lead souls to the light of God’s eternal word. For in the day of judgment we will not be judged by what we think, or what we feel, or even by that which we have been taught, but by the Word of God and that only (Acts 17:31; Rev. 20:12; Jn 12:48).

In this article, we have set side by side for your consideration, what “The Bible” and the churches of Christ teach, and “What The Baptist Church Teaches.” We plead you to carefully compare what Baptists teach with that which the New Testament teaches, and you can clearly see that Baptists are out of harmony with the Bible on these twenty-five points. This is not to say that the Baptist are only out of step with the New Testament only on these 25 points, but these are sufficient to illustrate that they are not the church which Christ built.

1. The New Testament Church Teaches: Name of the church, “churches of Christ” (Col 1:18; 1 Cor 12:13,27; Rom. 16:16)

The Baptist Churches Teach:  Name of church, “Baptist Church.”

2. The New Testament Church Teaches: Members called “Christians” (Acts 11:26; I Pet 4:16).

The Baptist Churches Teach: Members called “Baptists.”

3. The New Testament Church Teaches: Belief and baptism equals salvation (Mk 16:16; Acts 2:28).

The Baptist Churches Teach: Belief only equals salvation, and then baptism

4. The New Testament Church Teaches: Repent and be baptized “for” remission of sins (Acts 2:38).

The Baptist Churches Teach: Repent and be baptized “because of” remission of sins

5. The New Testament Church Teaches: “Baptized into Christ” (Rom. 6:3; Gal. 3:27).

The Baptist Churches Teach: Already in Christ, and then be baptized.

6. The New Testament Church Teaches: Baptism doth also now save us” (I Pet. 3:21)

The Baptist Churches Teach: Baptism does not save us.

7. The New Testament Church Teaches: Baptized to wash away sins (Acts 22:16).

The Baptist Churches Teach: Baptized with no sins to wash away.

8. The New Testament Church Teaches: Baptized upon confession of faith and repentance  (Acts 8:37; Rom. 10: 9-10; Acts 2:38).

The Baptist Churches Teach: Baptized upon “experience” of feelings.

9. The New Testament Church Teaches: Baptized by the authority of Christ (Matt. 28:18-19; Mk 16:15-16).

The Baptist Churches Teach: Baptized by the authority of the Baptist Church after voted on.

10. The New Testament Church Teaches: Not justified by faith only (Jam 2:17, 20, 24)

The Baptist Churches Teach: Justified “solely through faith in Christ”

11. The New Testament Church Teaches: The gospel is Gods power to save (Rom. 1:16; I Cor. 15:1-2)

The Baptist Churches Teach: Direct operation of the Holy Spirit, Gods power to save.

12. The New Testament Church Teaches: The new birth is “of water and of the spirit” (Jn 3:3-5)

The Baptist Churches Teach: The new birth is of the spirit, but not of water.

13. The New Testament Church Teaches: We receive the “gift of the Holy Spirit” after we become children of God (Acts 2:38; Gal. 6:4)

The Baptist Churches Teach: We receive the “gift of the Holy Spirit” before we come children of God

14. The New Testament Church Teaches: Only in the name of Jesus Christ is there salvation (Acts 4:9-12)

The Baptist Churches Teach: There is nothing in a name. One name is as good as another.

15. The New Testament Church Teaches: Gods “Whole family in heaven and in earth is named” after Christ (Eph. 3:14-15)

The Baptist Churches Teach: Some members of Gods family are named Baptist, Methodist, etc.

16. The New Testament Church Teaches: Lords Supper to be observed on the first day of the week (Acts 20:7)

The Baptist Churches Teach: Lords Supper to be observed one a year, twice a year, or once month.

17. The New Testament Church Teaches: Sing, making melody in your heart to the Lord  (Eph 5:19; Col. 3:16.

The Baptist Churches Teach: Sing and play, making melody on a mechanical instrument.

18. The New Testament Church Teaches: Only Christians commanded to pray (I Thess. 5:17-18; I Pet. 3:12; John 9:13)

The Baptist Churches Teach: Alien sinners should pray for salvation.

The Baptist Churches Teach: Christ is the Savior of those outside of the church

21. The New Testament Church Teaches: Faith comes by hearing the word of God (Jn 20:30-31; Rom 10:17)

The Baptist Churches Teach: Faith is “wrought in the soul by the regenerating Spirit of God.”

22. The New Testament Church Teaches: We must do the will of God to be saved (Mt. 7:21; Heb 5:9)

The Baptist Churches Teach: Just trust in the Lord and he will save you.

23. The New Testament Church Teaches: Saved people can fall from the grace of God (I Cor. 10:8, 12; Gal. 5:4)

The Baptist Churches Teach: Saved people cannot fall from grace.

24. The New Testament Church Teaches: Man can make shipwreck of his faith and be lost. (I Tim 1:19-20)

The Baptist Churches Teach: Man cannot make shipwreck of his faith and be lost.

25. The New Testament Church Teaches: Mans salvation is dependent upon his obedience to Gods word (Heb. 5:9; I Pet. 1:22; II Thess. 1:7-9)

The Baptist Churches Teach: Mans salvation does not depend upon his obedience to Gods word, it is “wholly of grace.”

Conclusion: If the Baptist church is wrong in these areas, and they are, how can they be considered the impeccable church which Christ built. Not only are they wrong in these areas, but are wrong in others as well. They are wrong in tithing. They are wrong by having women preachers, song leaders, and leaders of the church. The church Christ built is the pillar and ground of the truth, and contains the manifold wisdom of God. (1 Tim 3:15 ; Eph 3:10) The Baptist church is not the church which Christ built because they deny the doctrine which Christ and his apostles taught. (2 Jn 9) If you are a member of the Baptist church, consider this: Every convert mentioned in the New Testament were baptized believers. (Acts 2;8,9,10,16) All Christians continued in the apostle’s doctrine. (Acts 2:42) All Christians were added to the body, the church of Christ. (Acts 2:47) If your desire is to be saved, then ask yourself, am I in a new testament church? If you think you are, is the church you attend doing the same things that the new testament churches did, and no more? (1 Cor 4:6) What saved them will save us today, for God is not a respecter of person. (Col 3:25) Don’t join the church of your choice, but rather obey the gospel of Christ and be added to the church which Christ built. (Mt 16:18)

  1. Kent Bailey said:

I deeply appreciate the article relating to 25 reasons why Baptist churches are not New Testament churches. This article was well written and faithfully set fort New Testament teaching. As the author has correctly stated, we have no personal animosity toward Baptist people. We admire and appreciate their sincerity and devotion. Many of us have family and friends who are Baptists. Our opposition to Baptist doctrine is based upon a sincere love of God’s truth as well as having a genuine concern and love for the souls of well meaning individuals who are following religious error.
