Make no mistake about the Lord our God. He gives life and he takes life. He tells us as much in his Word and he proves such each and every day man exists upon this earth. As Job told us, “…The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord.” Job 1:21 Also it it written, “The Lord kills, and makes alive: he brings down to the grave, and brings up.” 1 Sam 2:6
It was God who killed every human alive on this planet in the days of Noah (except Noah and his family). It was God who killed every human alive in Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighboring cities (except Lot and his 2 daughters). He drowned Pharaoh’s army. In the wilderness God swallowed up those who rose up against Moses. He allowed all of Israel to die in the wilderness, denying them entrance into the land of Canaan. He killed Adab and Abihu for making strange fire. He killed Uzzah for touching the ark of the covenant. He killed Herod, who after making a speech was said to have the voice of a god and not a man, but he gave not God the praise. He killed Ananias and Sapphira for promising the church a piece of land but holding back part of the price.
God holds the power of life and death in each one of us. It is appointed unto man once to die but after this, the judgment. Heb 9:27 Take note of the word, “Appointed” which is the same phrase Paul used when he said, “Henceforth there is “Laid Up” for me a crown of righteousness,…” Death is a reservation which God has made for each of us, and we can’t delay it, nor can we prevent it. And here is the bottom line: once we die, we will face judgment. Stop! Think! You could be alive one moment and dead the next. Which means you could be living the life of luxury as the story of the rich man and Lazarus, and wake up in hell the next.
Now, some think God has changed despite the fact the scripture tells us He never changes. Mal 3:6 f; Heb 13:8 They believe God won’t destroy both soul and body in hell. Mt 10:28 Yes, God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son to die for our sins. Jn 3:16 A gospel which was preached unto all the world. Col 1:23 All we are asked to do is to obey the same gospel which asks each of us to believe with the heart and confess with the mouth that Jesus is the Christ; Rom 10:9,10 He asks us to repent and be baptized for the remission of sins. Acts 2:38 He asks us to remain faithful unto death. Rev 2:10 All who obey this gospel is promised salvation. Mk 16:16
Yet, this is the same God which promised that all who obey not the gospel shall be cast into the lake of fire with the Devil and his angels. 2 Thess 1:7-9 ff; Rev 20:10-15; Rev 21:8 God keeps his promises! 2 Pet 3:9 Death was promised! Salvation was promised to all who obey the gospel! Damnation was promised to all who reject the gospel! It’s a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. Heb 10:31 “Knowing therefore the terror of he Lord, we persuade men.” 2 Cor 5:11 God gives, God takes, be prepared! Am 4:12
