What is the difference between joining the church of your choice and being added to the Lord’s Church? Joining the church of your choice is your choice and your doctrine. When one is added to the church Christ built, it’s Christ’s choice and Christ’s doctrine. No one can join the Lord’s church nor can they be added to it by anyone except the Lord Jesus Christ. Let us establish by what criteria one is added to the Lord’s Church, and how one can know of an assurance that they were added by the Lord.
How One Knows They Have Not Been Added To The Lord’s Church
When one has not obeyed the gospel of our salvation, they have not been added to the Lord’s church. Rom 10:10 f; Acts 2:38 When one is attending a church which carries not the Lord’s name, they have not been added to the Lord’s church. Acts 4:12 f; Col 1:18 When one is attending a church which abides by the doctrines of men, they have not been added to the Lord’s church. Mt 15:7-9 When one worships not in Spirit and in truth, they have not been added to the Lord’s church. Jn 4:23,24
What Criteria Christ Adds Us To His Church?
Jesus came to die for the sins of the world and to build his church. 1 Cor 15:3 f; Mt 16:18 Jesus purchased the church with his own blood. Acts 20:28 Jesus is the head of the body, the church of Christ. Eph 1:22,23. Everyone who obeys the gospel of Christ are baptized into His body, the church of Christ. 1 Cor 12:13 Everyone who obeys the gospel are added and become members of the body, the church of Christ. Acts 2:47 f; 1 Cor 12:27
Every local church of the Lord are ruled by qualified elders, and abide by the doctrine of Christ. 1 Tim 3:1-13 f; 2 Jn 9 Every church of the Lord worships by the same apostolic doctrine. Jn 4:23,24 They all speak where the bible speaks and are silent where the bible is silent. 1 Pet 4:11 f; 1 Cor 4:6; Rev 22:18,19 They all remember the Lord death and give of their means each first day of the week. Acts 20:7 f; 1 Cor 16:1,2 They all sing and pray with the same Spirit and the same understanding. 1 Cor 14:15 They all hear the Word by means of preaching. Acts 20:7 f; 2 Tim 4:2-5
Conclusion: One can join the church of their choice and obey the doctrine of their choosing, but they can rest assured this is not the Lord’s church. Denominational churches are headed by men and women who did not die for their sins nor can they save them. Denominational churches follow doctrines which Christ did not establish. Only the church which Christ died for has the ability to save us. Only the churches of Christ teach the gospel of Christ which is able to turn one into a Christian. The churches of Christ has no creed but the bible, no doctrine but the gospel, no headquarters but in heaven, and no head but Christ. If it’s your desire to be saved, then allow Christ to add you according to the gospel to the One Church which can save you, the churches of Christ__ the manifold wisdom of God, and the pillar and ground of the truth. Eph 3:10 f; 1 Tim 3:15
