Who shall stand against the servants of God? What weapon formed can conquer them? Isa 54:17 It has been said that if God restrained not his servants that they would conquer the world. Yet all the saints of God are more than conquers through him that loved us. Rom 8:37 Let’s take a look at all the things the servants of God have already conquered.
All those who have obeyed the gospel of Christ have been buried with Christ by baptism, and raised to walk in the newness of life. Rom 6:3,4 By dying with Christ by baptism the second death has no power to reign over us. Rom 6:9 If Christ who was raised from the dead died no more, then neither do those who died once unto sin, for we live through the power of Jesus Christ. Rom 6:10,11
If we then are risen with Christ, then are we dead to the world, and set our affections on things above. Col 3:1,2 If anyone is in Christ they are a new creature: Old things are passed away, and behold all things are become new. 2 Cor 5:17 O death, where is your sting? O grave, where is your victory? But thanks be unto God which gives us the victory through Jesus Christ. 1 Cor 15:55,57
“Who is he that overcomes the world, but he that believes that Jesus is the Son of God?” 1 John 5:4 A study of Hebrews 11 reveals the power of faith. Worthy men and women of old overcame the world by faith. They struggled against the seductions of Satan, the power of darkness, fleshly weaknesses, and numerous obstacles, but faith gave them victory.
The gospel of Christ conquers sin in two imperative ways, First, through the precious blood of Christ our past sins are forgiven by God when we accept the gospel. 1 Pet 1:18,19 We accept it by believing in Christ with the heart and confessing Jesus as the Son of God with the mouth, and repenting of our sins and being baptized in water for the remission of our sins. Mk. 16:16ff; Acts 2:38; Rom. 10:10. Secondly, the love of Christ constrains us to resist temptation, to fight sin in all forms, and to conquer it in our daily lives. “Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness”. Rom. 6:17 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Rom 6:23
The apostle Paul made one thing perfectly clear: God is over Christ, Christ is over man, and man in over the woman. 1 Cor 11:3 Until we as Christians can conquer our pride, and submit to higher authority, we can’t be the servants of God. Jam 4:6,7
God’s Word was established and settled in heaven, and forever endures. Ps 119:89f; 1 Pet 1:25 It is a lesson that the prophets of God learned who spoke in the name of the Lord. 2 Pet 1:21f; Jam 5:10 It is a lesson that the apostles learned well by speaking only what they both heard and seen of the Holy Spirit. Acts 4:19,20f; Jn 16:13 It is a lesson that Jesus Christ learned well when he only spoke and did what God commanded him to do. Jn 12:49,50 Until we learn this same lesson, and submit ourselves to our Maker by allowing Him to be true, and us the liar, we won’t overcome when we are judged. Rom 3:4
Conclusion: By Conquering death we conquer sin. By conquering sin we conquer the one sin that goes before destruction, pride. Prov 16:18 He that overcomes these shall inherit all things; and then we shall be the sons and daughters of God. Rev. 21:7
