Roll Call

When the roll is called up yonder, will you be there? Will you be among God’s called, God’s chosen, and God’s faithful? Rev 17:14 If you are, it will be because of your action and reaction to the gospel. God revealed what it will take to be in the Lamb’s Book of Life within the pages of His Word.

Obedient To The Gospel

No one can be called a saint of God without first becoming obedient to the gospel of Christ. What does the gospel of Christ contain? The answer might just surprise you because of its simplicity. The gospel could be described in just one name, Jesus Christ. Jesus died for our sins. Jesus was buried. Jesus arose from the dead. That is the gospel of Christ. 1 Cor 15:1-4 If we believe this and confess it before men; Rom 10:9,10 And if we repent and are baptized for the remission of our sins, we shall be saved. Acts 2:38f; Mk 16:16

Obedient To The Doctrine of Christ

Once we have obeyed the gospel of Christ we are added by the Jesus Christ to the church. Acts 2:47 This one church which Christ built, which He’s the head of, and is called by His name, is lead by qualified elders, and served by qualified deacons according to the requirements stipulated in the new testament. Mt 16:18ff; 1 Tim 3:1-13

All Christians must attend this one church each first day of the week. Heb 10:25 Though many churches teach otherwise, there is no other day mentioned in the new testament where the saints attended. Acts 20:7 On this day the saints remembered the Lord’s death by taking of the communion. 1 Cor 11:24-26 They also gave of their means, preached, prayed, and sang praises unto God. 1 Cor 16:1,2ff; Acts 20:7; 1 Cor 14:15 There is no mention of the saints ever using instruments of music in accompaniment with their singing. Eph 5:19f; Col 3:16

To be obedient to the gospel of Christ, Christians must speak only the oracles of God, and not go beyond that which was written. 1 Pet 4:11f; 1 Cor 4:6 All Christians must obey the doctrine of Christ. 2 Jn 9

Duties of A Christian

Christians must seek diligently to be approved of God by rightly handling the Word of truth. 2 Tim 2:15 Christians must read and learn the Word of God in order to preach and to teach, to contend and defend, and to convert and to save the lost. 1 Tim 4:13ff; Mt 11:29; 2 Tim 4:2-5; Jude 3; Philip 1:15-18; Jam 5:19,20

Trials and Temptations and Persecutions

All the saints of God must be tested and tried by the Lord in order to be saved. It is called being faithful unto death. Rev 2:10 All Christians are persecuted in the exact same way. 1 Pet 5:9,10 God does not persecute one Christian, and allow another to go free. Acts 10:34f; Col 3:25 The trying of our faith produces patience that we might be perfect, and complete, and lacking of nothing. Jam 1:3,4 If we endure temptations until the end, we shall receive a crown of life. Jam 1:12

Conclusion: If we really expect to be there when the roll is called up yonder, we must do all these faithfully. Mt 10:22 Faithful soldiers obey orders, endure the training, and the endure the battles. As Paul encouraged all Christians, “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” 1 Tim 6:12 And if we fight, let us fight to win our incorruptible crown, that we all may be judged faithful by the One who was faithful even to the death on the cross. 1 Cor 9:26ff; 1 Thess 5:24; Jam 1:13
