Do We Trust In God?

Have you ever seen those battling trust issues have someone stand directly behind them, and they fall backward into their arms. It’s called blind trust, because there is no guarantee that they will catch you, except for the fact you trust them to catch you as you fall. As human beings, we place our trust in many kinds of people. We trust our food and water supply to be free from things that can harm us. We trust the other driver to obey the rules of the road. We trust doctors to cut us open, and operate on us. We trust strangers to teach our children. We trust politicians to govern us. How is it we can trust in crooked politicians but we can’t trust the one who keeps all of his promises, and lies not. 2 Pet 3:9f; Heb 6:18 How can we place our trust in mankind in so many ways, but we can’t trust God at his Word? Ps 119:42

Noah trusted God, and built the ark and saved himself and his family. It was Sarah who trusted God to bring forth a child when she was past age. It was Abraham who trusted God when he was asked to sacrifice his son Isaac. It was Moses who trusted God to lead the children out of Egypt, and to cross the Red Sea as by dry land. It was Joshua who trusted God in order to bring down the walls of Jericho. It was Elijah who trusted God when he faced the 450 false prophets of Jezebel. It was David who trusted God in order to kill the giant. These trusted God, so why can’t we?

It was God who inspired every word in the bible.2 Tim 3:16,17 It was God who sent his only begotten Son to die for our sins. Jn 3:16 It was God, who can’t lie, who promised us eternal life. Tit 1:2 It was Christ who died for our sins on the cross of Calvary. It was God who raised Jesus from the dead. Rom 6:4 It was the Lord who gave the Word, and great was the company of them that proclaimed it. Ps 68:11 It was Jesus who sent the apostles into all the world to preach the gospel to every creature that we might be saved. Mt 28:19,20

We seek the Lord God when we are sick.2 Chron 33:12 We seek the Lord at death. Why not trust the Lord for your salvation and obey the gospel of Christ. It was the Paul who said, faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. Rom 10:17 It was Jesus who said, if you believe that I am not he you shall die in your sins. Jn 8:24  It was Jesus who said, whosoever shall confess me before men, him will I also confess before my Father which is in heaven. Mt 10:32, 33 It was Jesus who said, he that believes and is baptized shall be saved. Mk 16:16 It was John who said, be faithful unto death, and I will give you a crown of life.

If we can trust man whose righteousness are as filthy rags, and drinks sin like water, how is it we can’t trust the one who holds the breath of all mankind in his hands? Isa 64:6ff; Job 15:16; Job 12:10 We trust in our own riches, our own strength, and our own wisdom, yet our riches perish, our strength fails us, and our wisdom is proven to be folly. 1 Tim 6:17ff; Ps 73:26; 1 Cor 1:25  The psalmist David said, “The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.” Ps 18:2

David wrote, “I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.” Ps 91:2 Let us remember the words of the apostle Paul who said, “In Him (Christ) you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.” Eph 1:13-14 “For to this end we both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe.” 1 Tim 4:10 Believe it! God is a God we can trust with not only our present life, but especially in our eternal life to come.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and lean not unto your own understanding.” Prov 3:5
