The Wonderful Gifts Of God

God is a gracious God, and gives to every  man according to his daily needs. Sometimes in life we forget that it’s God who gives us not only our daily bread, but all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ. Eph 1:3 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. Jam 1:17 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 1 Pet 4:10 Let us examine some of the wonderful gifts of God.

The Gift of the Holy Spirit

There has always been debates concerning what kind of gift the Holy Spirit gives unto Christians. Some have even contended that the Holy Spirit was the gift. Though the bible never expressed specifically what this gift is, we do know that it is contingent upon obeying the gospel of Christ.

Some contend that the gifts are the fruit of the Spirit: Love, Joy, Peace, Long Suffering, Gentleness, Goodness, Faith, Meekness, Temperance Gal 5:22,23

The Holy Spirit enabled men to prophesy concerning salvation. 2 Pet. 1:20-21 The Holy Spirit enabled men to preach this message of salvation. 1 Pet. 1:12 The Holy Spirit validated the message of this great salvation by signs and wonders. Heb. 2:1-4 Therefore, some contend the salvation of Acts 2:21 is the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38

We do know one thing for sure, that each gift given is different and unique to each individual. Paul said, “Each one has his own gift from God, one in this manner and another in that.” 1 Cor 7:7 We also know that it was a promise given to all who are called to be a Christian. Acts 2:38

It is evident that some are given gifts to preach the Word of God, and some are given the gifts to lead the church as elders and deacons. Some are given the gift to lead singing, while others are given the gifts to write and illustrate the gospel in unique and unbelievable ways. Whatever unique gift that is imparted unto Christians, should be used to the glory of God, and the furtherance of his kingdom. 1 Cor 10:31

Gift of Prophesy & Tongues & Miracles

There were some immediate gifts given in the infancy of the New Testament that were for that time period only. These gifts included the gift of prophesying, of knowledge, speaking in tongues, and miraculous healing. Paul commanded Timothy not to neglect the gift of God that was in him by the laying on of hands. The apostles were given the power, to lay on of hands, by Jesus Christ. 2 Tim 1:6 Simon attempted to buy this power, but was rebuked of Peter, for such power belonged only to the apostles, and no other. Acts 8:17-22 Paul would later write that such gifts would be done away with when that which was perfect was come, the Word of God. 1 Cor 13:8-10

Gift of Salvation

Long before we become Christians, Christ died for our sins. Paul said, “God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Rom 5:8-9 This is that unspeakable gift of Jesus Christ, and the great sacrifice he gave by dying on the cross. 2 Cor 9:15 God gave us the victory of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Cor 15:57 Now, this doesn’t mean we are saved by the mere fact Jesus died for us, but it means we did nothing to deserve such a gift of salvation. Such a gift was by the grace of God, an unmerited favor toward mankind. Eph 2:8; Jn 3:16

Gift of Righteousness

The gift of righteousness is immeasurable because all have sinned, and continue to sin even after they have become a Christian. Rom 3:23 To say otherwise makes liars of us all. 1 Jn 1:10 Isaiah said that all of our righteousness were are as filthy rags. Isa 64:6 It is by the avenue of prayer, with the assistance of the Holy Spirit, and our mediator Jesus Christ that gives us the opportunity to ask God for forgiveness of our sins. Rom 8:26,27ff;1 Tim 2:5; Eph 4:32; Col 1:14

Gift of Eternal Life

The one reason why all Christians suffer and endure after being baptized into Christ is the promise of eternal life. This one hope of salvation is the anchor of the soul of all Christians. Heb 6:19 Before the world began God promised eternal life. Tit 1:2 Paul stated that the wages of sin was death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus. Rom 6:23 This gift is contingent upon obeying the gospel and remaining faithful unto death. Jesus said, “He that believes and is baptized shall be saved.” Mk 16:16 And again he said, “He that endures until the end shall be saved.” Mt 10:22f; Mt 24:13

Conclusion: Our God is a very generous God. He gave us our physical life to do with it as we please. If we live for evil we shall receive an evil man’s reward, and if we live righteously we shall receive a righteous man’s reward. As God said to Cain, “If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door.” Gen 4:7

God gave us the hope of eternal life by the death of His only Son. Jn 3:16 God gave us His Word to lead and guide us to our reward. Ps 68:11 God gave us His Holy Spirit to give unto us our proper gift after obeying His Word. Acts 2:38 God gave us the petition of forgiveness of sins through Christ Jesus our Lord. Col 1:14 God will give us eternal life if we obey the gospel and continue in God’s Word. Jn 8:31 Thanks be unto God which GIVES us the VICTORY through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Cor 15:57
