The scriptures instruct us that God is love, and in every way, God is just that. 1 Jn 4:8 The greatest love story ever written is God’s love for Israel, and to every Gentile who has ever been born again. Here is the wonderful story of God’s love.
God’s Love For Israel
God’s chosen people and first love was the house of Israel. He was to Israel a husband and cared for them as such. God delivered Israel from 430 years of bondage to the Egyptians. He fed Israel in the wilderness for 40 years. He lead Israel out of the wilderness into the land of milk and honey, Canaan. He not only gave them a law to govern them, but also gave kings to rule them. He fought Israel’s battles, and delivered them from captivity over and over again.
Yet, with all this love which God gave to Israel, Israel went and played the harlot, and began to serve and worship idols. Despite God punishing Israel, and then taking her back many times over, eventually he gave her a bill of divorcement for her infidelity. Jer 3
God’s Love For Gentiles
God out of his love for mankind gave us his only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. Jn 3:16 The same God who had married Israel, and divorced her was now poised to marry the Gentiles. He courted Israel for reconciliation, but she rejected him and then delivered him to the Romans to be crucified. It was after Jesus’ resurrection that he sent his apostles to the Gentiles to preach to them the gospel of Christ. Acts 28:28 Jesus said, “Greater love has no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends, and you are my friends if you do whatsoever I command you.” Jn 15:13,14 The love which Jesus gave to the Gentiles was an eternal promise that he purchased with his own blood, eternal life. Acts 20:28 This he promised to all who obey the gospel of Christ. Mk 16:16
However, make no mistake about it, all who refuse to be added to the church, the bride of Christ, by not obeying the gospel of Christ, they shall be punished with an everlasting hell. 2 Thess 1:7-9 God is truly defined by his love for mankind, and if we are to be apart of Him we must also be defined as love. We must love our enemies, our neighbor as ourselves, and fellow brethren as Christ loved us; And above all, we must love God’s Word enough to obey it and be faithful to it. Rev 2:10 After all, God loved us first, even so we must love Him. 1 Jn 4:10; 2 Jn 6
