Fasten Your Eyes Upon The Lord

Most all Christians know that God is watching them, but most seem to forget that fact every now and then. Ps 10:11 They forget God is watching them when they are secretly committing sin. Ps 14:2 Somehow they suddenly believe that as long as no human being sees them that they can slip one over God up in heaven. Job 22:13,14 This happens when they take their eyes off the One, who never takes his eyes off of them. 1 Pet 3:12

Cain Killed His Brother Abel

Cain and Abel were brothers who offered up sacrifice to God. Cain, a farmer, offered up the fruit of his labor, vegetables, which was not acceptable with God. Abel, a herdsman, offered up animal sacrifice to God which was acceptable. The Hebrew writer said, “By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks.” Heb 11:4

Cain became envious because God had accepted Abel’s sacrifice over his, and murdered his brother. Though he did this in secret, God still saw this heinous sin. God asked Cain where his brother was, but Cain was devious to God by saying, “Am I my brother’s keeper?” God said, “Your brother’s blood cries to me from the ground.” God cursed Cain in that the ground would no longer bring forth for him, and made him a fugitive and a vagabond. God even prevented anyone killing Cain by placing a mark upon his forehead, and sent him from His presence in the land of Nod. Gen 4:3-16

David’s Secret Sin With Bathsheba

David was a man who was after God’s own heart. Acts 13:22 Yet David secretly took another man’s wife, and slept with her. Not only did he commit adultery, but also placed her husband on the front lines where the battle was heated, so that he would be surely killed.

God seeing all of this sent Nathan the prophet to confront David of his transgression.  The sword never departed from David’s house because he despised God’s law, and had done such a heinous crime before the Lord. Though his sin was done in secret, God punished David publicly. Even David’s wives were taken and given to another, and the child which he had with Bathsheba was killed by God. 2 Sam 12:9-19

Ananias & Sapphira

Ananias and Sapphira his wife conspired to sell a piece of their land, and keep back part of the price, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet. Peter confronted Ananias asking him why had Satan filled his heart to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to withhold the full price of the land. Subsequently, he fell dead and was buried

Sapphira unaware of what happened to her husband was also confronted by Peter. After telling him the same conspired lies, Peter said to her, because you have agreed to tempt the Spirit that the feet of them which have buried your husband are at the door, and shall carry you out. She immediately fell dead, and was buried.

Conclusion: It was God who witnessed the secret sins of Cain, David and Ananias and Sapphira. Paul wrote that God shall judge the secret sins of man by Jesus Christ according to the gospel which the apostles preached. Rom 2:16 Some sins are made known in this life, and the rest in the life to come. 1 Tim 5:24 And though God may delay a man’s punishment, make no mistake about it, punishment will come. Eccl 8:11,12 God sees all, knows all, and judges all. Jer 23:24f; Acts 15:18; Heb 10:30

So to avoid the mistakes of these, let us keep in mind that God’s eyes are always fastened upon us. The only way mankind can prevent sinning against God is to always keep our eyes fastened upon the Lord, as he keeps His eyes fastened upon us. Heb 12:2f; Prov 15:3
