Your Attendance Is Wanted, Needed, and Commanded

There are lots of loop-legged Christians who don’t see the importance of attending church services every first day of the week. These are the ones who see Sunday as a day of relaxing from a hard weeks work, and a time to enjoy themselves. They don’t see how their attendance could be missed, nor do they truly believe we are commanded to attend every church service.

Yet, consider if the elders and deacons saw it this way. Who would be there to guard and guide the flock from false doctrine? Acts 20:28-31 Who would be there to visit the sick, and to keep order in the church? Jam 5:14,15 Who would be there for all Christians to follow, and whose there to watch out for your soul? Heb 13:7,17

If the preacher saw it this way, who would deliver his sermons in and out of season? 2 Tim 4:2-5 Who would take his place to teach the bible class? This is to say little of the bulletins he writes, the radio and tv programs he presents, or the time he spends in the community throughout the week sowing the seeds of the gospel. Gal 6:8,9

If the mature Christians saw it this way, who would be there to sing praises to God? Eph 5:19 Who would be there to lead prayers, and wait on the Lord’s table? Who would be there to teach the bible classes? Who would be there to fellowship with fellow brethren?

So the next time you are just laying on your bed on Sunday morning, and thinking that your attendance is not needed every time the church door opens, think on these things, and remember, you are needed. If the church is to function properly, every member is needed from the least to the greatest. You should be there because God commanded you to be there, and to not forsake the assembly. Heb 10:25 You are needed to be there to learn of God’s Word. 2 Tim 2:15 Most of all, you are needed to grow into the Christian God needs, and wants you to become. Heb 5:12-14 If the church is to grow, all members of the body of Christ must grow in the grace, and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Pet 3:18 Remember, your attendance is wanted, needed, and commanded.
